Dear Everybody,

It occurs to me that many here are fighting similar personal battles on account of the world at large's general misunderstanding of autism and the inadequacy and inappropriateness in the provision of services.

Should we all unite into a unified voice we could overcome much and effect real change and many in desperate circumstances could be given opportunity to thrive.

With best wishes, welcoming all comments/contributions and with the kindest of regards,

Jim

We have common ground and experience to unite behind. I have no choice. I am quite literally fighting for my very existence!

Thank you KenG,

None of the above! Never heard of them until now.

Thank you for restoring some hope to me.

Best wishes,

Jim

Hi Jim,

You're very lucky you live in the U.K. -- where, as far as I can tell, the autistic community is better-developed than almost anywhere else in the world.

Yet the autistic community still has a long way to go, even in the U.K. See Longterm visions for the autistic community for my thoughts on various kinds of organizations that the autistic community needs but still does not yet have.

If you wish to help build the autistic community yourself, perhaps you might want to contact the Autistic Mutual Aid Society Edinburgh to ask if anyone there would be able and willing to advise you on how to start a similar group in Bristol, or if they will be holding any relevant training sessions soon. They occasionally hold trainings on how to build an autistic people's organization.

Thanks Mona. Not my experience of living in the UK unfortunately. I think I was born to be tortured and consider myself damned to live in the UK. Kind regards and best wishes, Jim.

Looking at the description of Jimberry's video on YouTube, I notice the following:

Quote:
Autism Acceptance Day?!

Why is it that the terminology remains so limp?
Because we (autistics) are all so used to being kicked in the proverbials?

How about Autism Advancement Day or Autistic Advancement Day or Advance Autistics Day?

Yes, Autism Acceptance is slightly less pathetic than Autism Awareness though it still sounds to me like 'Please sir can (may) I have some more?'. Almost like, 'Oh well, we are aware of these *****s; might as well accept them'!

I like the idea of Autistic Advancement!
