Researches deny link of autism with vaccines

Government and mass media are worried about the increased cases of autism among children. The number of autism diagnoses has grown in recent decades.

Autism is a brain development disorder that impairs social interaction and communication, and causes restricted and repetitive behavior, all starting before a child is three years old.

Senator John McCain asserts that “that it’s got to do with a preservative in vaccines.” Some parents’ groups and lawmakers go further; they say that the preservative, which contains mercury and is called thimerosal, has caused an epidemic of new autism cases.

I'm actually somewhat in the camp that the vaccines could be responsible, since no one else in my family has autism, although there is certainly the matter of changing diagnosis criteria.

I always compare this to deaths of Bundesliga* players in 1970. If you see how many (former) players of Bundesliga clubs in the year 1970 died of unnatural causes, you might think that it's the fault of the Bundesliga - however since the league only existed for about 10 years, the higher raters were only caused because there were no natural deaths at that age.

The same way, I think the diagnosis of autism and vaccines have one factor, which causes both: civilization and more exact: a higher standard of living.
