Though the state Assembly is scheduled to vote today on a bill that would authorize enough additional state spending to eliminate the waiting list for families needing treatment for autism, it's not a day of great anticipation for autism advocacy groups.

Then they also shouldn't be involved in defense of the country either because they aren't soilders, or involved in developing roads because the aren't construction workers, or in education because they aren't teachers.
See the flaw in this thinking?
Politicians are policy makers. They are elected by the people that decide policy or tell the health workers what priorities to treat, not how to treat it.
Politicians consult professionals in the crafting of bills to ensure that they workable, and many times, the experts in the fields actually write a good portion of the bills themselves, and elected policy makers try to get them through the system to become law.
