I have yet another paper to write (this will be the last one for WP). For those who participated in the last paper, I give my gratitude and appreciation - the professor loved the paper :)

So, for this one, I have 3 questions:

How does the design of the board affect autism awareness?

What design feature (the forums, chat capability, IM, email) influences WP (and, subsequently, autism awareness) the most?

Lastly, what new design feature would enhance the abilities of promoting autism awareness?

As always, I appreciate any feedback and opinions.

Thanks!

it's not too different from most web pages in overall design. I immediately knew what to do when I got here, except for a small problem

you have to publish any pictures from a web page.

Aside from that, the one thing I do like is having the text of the thread available while you're typing in an answer. Some pages don't do that, and it's a trial to remember everything that's said.

As for autism awareness...if I hadn't been looking for this place (or a place like this) , I'd never have found it on my own...;)

Am would say the design does not affect autism awareness as a whole,as the design focusses on Aspergers [see logo].

though do think it is autistic friendly in terms of colours, especially for those with visual processing problems, the less obvious colours make it easier to use-to compare go to somewhere like the BBCs ouch disability forum and it's extremely hard to use,the bright colour scheme causes problems not just for autists there but also for dyslexic and visually impaired users [its been like that for years but have heard its changing this year].

am think the forum is probably the best influence of all because most of it is open to anyone and it is very popular, meaning a lot of users are being made aware of things,chat/IM/email is more private.

new design feature....am think changing the logo [not meaning the design itself but the writing] to say 'the online resource and community for those with Autism Spectrum Disorders' would be a help to Autism awareness as many people here think it's only for and used by aspies and know little about kanners/classic or atypical/PDDNOS autism.

am not sure of something much new for autism awareness, what about a autism/AS class board, where a specific time is allocated to go on it everyday/whenever and there can be different things to learn like what things mean, how to do things etc-classes [which would be threads] from basic and lf to hf /advanced? maybe classes on what autism and as is....the teachers could be the most knowledgeable users on the forum who would want to do it...
just a thought because online schooling is popular with both children and adults for many different reasons, why not for autism related stuff?

I think the color segue for posting was intentional as others said.

I like the colors simply for the fact that they're both my favorite colors (which are easier on the eye).

Alex - Nice to see you :) It'd be interesting to study how a few words changes on a logo can make a community feel more "included" (if that makes sense).

KingdomOfRats: I liked your idea about creating an online classroom for autistics - it's interesting. Like an extension of the chat capabilites for WP, only more formal. That sparks an idea in my mind.

Design Theory (the idea behind this last paper) involves the likely effect of a particular design choice on some goal of interest and takes into consideration the contextual factors.

In plain English, my position for this paper is thus: "The re-design of the logo (Design) helps the WP community feel more included (while still educating others about autism and Aspergers, i.e. autism awareness), in a web based support forum designed for those on the autistic spectrum with a emphasis on autism awareness and strong norms about acceptance and respect.

Now that I have my focus, I was wondering what you all thought, WP community, about my focus and whether the new logo design will have a more positive vibe for inclusion and awareness. Or, are you neutral? Will it have a negative impact? Or are further design changes needed to better promote autism awareness? Thoughts, opinions, comments welcomed. You may also email me at [email protected] or PM me.

Thank you!
