If I'm the only one who has seen this movie, here is some information --

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0392465/

---

I severely dislike this movie. Mainly, because I was really looking forward to it, and it highly disappointed me.

Its not horrible. In fact, it has its good parts, and it seems like they really tried to make this accurate.

But some of the ways they portray people with Austim, or with AS really gets under my skin and upset me on a deep level.

I like that this movie tried to explain to the world what we are -- People. People who sometimes have a hard time with life.

But in many places, it also failed at that expression, and turned us into idiots.

I know thats harsh of me to say. I understand it must be hard to avoid stereotypes, and some how capture individual, three dimensional people, on a two dimensional screen.
But it bothers me.
And I hope that some day we can improve on movies based on this mental diversity, by providing a less negative view point of people affected with this new strain of mental activity.

I bought this video. I watched it 3 times before sending off to my friend. Some parts I didn't like about it I never understood. Don't forget the majority of the audience will be NT so they are trying to portray in a way NT's will understand.

I waited for this to hit the big screen - but it never happened. So I bought the video from an internet auction site and sent the video after watching it to be sure there was not going to be any scene that will offend my Muslim friend.

The movie was based on real people, Jerry Newport and his wife. They are both aspie savants. What happened in the movie between the two characters happened with Mary and Jerry like with the apartment for example when Isabelle cleaned it. Donald flipped out.
If you read the book by them, you will see many references to this movie.

I really like the movie mainly because it was filmed where I am. They didn't change the names of streets and places like movies typically do. Even though the people it was portraying were not from Spokane they did do a great job of showing Spokane as it is. As for the content I have mixed feelings on that.

I liked it but my aspergers isnt as visible as theirs. I might say they are worse than me in having the visible signs of Aspergers. But I think it would be good to be more like them so are they really worse than me?

I and my best friend liked the movie overall, but the whole "magic aspie/autistic powers" that the writer does in all of his films tends to put us off. I don't see why movies only portray the extreme cases. To me it feels like their telling me "you're not as bad off as this guy, so just get over it." Am I the only one who has a problem with this?
