I think at the end of that episode they decided that House isn't an Aspie.
"They" being Cuddy and Wilson. After that was the scene where the autistic boy bonded with house. His gift to house and his eye contact says "House, you are like me. You are not a threat, I can even look you in the eye." Which is something that little boy couldnt even do with his parents.
As aspies I believe that we stand astride two worlds.
When I was in high school there was this autistic girl, Selena. She was very much a monkey see/monkey do sort of person. When she got too close, the teenage girls would shriek and run, especially if she touched them. To Selena this was a grand game and she'd shriek too and chase after them. All hell would break loose.
If they wanted to be cruel they would vigorously rub their hands down the sides of their pants. Since she was trying to communicate, trying to be like everyone, she would do this too. Unfortunately, she wore sweat pants and she'd press too hard, so down they would come. Of course the girls would make various "ewww" noises or scream and sent off pandemonium again.
This was long before the advent of Aspergers in the books. I was 16 or so, and Aspergers didnt appear as a diagnostic criteria till I was at least 24. But still, as I said, I think we bridge a gulf between two worlds.
When Selena would go off like that, I realized that she was emulating the others, and that If I stood still she'd ignore me completely. Sure enough she would run right by me. By the books, I was emotionally uninvolved. Years later it made me a good bouncer.
They insinuate that in that episode of house as well. House breaths in from a gas mask so that the autistic boy accepts it calmly. He explains to everyone that "monkeys are afraid of red berries until they see another monkey eat them."
Monkey see, monkey do. I'm half autistic and so are you.
