Yet the local media portrays parents leading miserable lives

One night, I remember watching the 11 O'Clock news on WICU-TV in Erie and there was this portrayal of parents leading miserable lives with their autistic newborn yet again. The kid in question didn't look that severe. I think his name was Andrew. It was a while ago.

Dare I ask how they could tell a newborn was autistic? They can barely open their eyes, let alone make eye contact....

I've heard it can't really be detected until 18 months. If it's obvious something is different with a newborn, it may be something else.
