Anyone can go "Let me __________, I have Aspergers!" - see? Not hard to make it your excuse.

How about "Let me learn to make sense of things, so I can better myself and contribute to society, I have Aspergers!" sound? To say we (genuine) Aspies use it as an excuse for an easier life is utter hogwash, when in fact we have to work harder than NTs to achieve the same things as they do.

I couldn't have agreed more.

BTW, that about a next step in the human evolution doesn't seem too unlikely. We have essentially been the same since pre-history when we were hunter-gatherers, and reasearch indicates that evolution goes a bit faster now. A genetic hole needs to be filled, and Aspergers could very well be that hole.

One of my most controversial ideas is that neurotypical social interaction has changed little since Neanderthal times and you second that notion. Nice to see I am not out in the forest all by myself. Anyway, well if it's survival of the fittest and natural selection, why are we considered "disabled" in the minds of the neurotypicals who can't provide support for such an arguement in the first place?

Ok. I'll quote from the article. Just so it's really clear.

Asperger's is a real disorder for some, but has turned into a kind of "get out of self-improvement free" card for legions of socially awkward Pokemon fans. This latter group doesn't care about your "medical credentials," "basic common sense" or even "knowing people who actually do have Aspergers." This syndrome they read about on Wikipedia once is their winning lottery ticket to a life of never having to learn how to interact with other humans.

Sorry for the double post. Oh look equating us to Pokemon fans. Ok, what's next Jews eat babies?

Ok, the second line is hitting beneath the belt. What???? We do listen to your medical credentials, basic common sense(if you have it) and we do know fellow auties in our network, so shut up.

And for the record, many auties do interact with other humans, it's simply cause we don't want to play your stupid social convention/hierarchy/status game. I got better things to dedicate my energies to like learning a different language, writing my book, studying geography and arguing politifcs and being a general activist of all sorts of people. As for your credentials of any kind, I will respect them, but I will respect you even more, if you can decode all that literature into something meaningful. All of my evals have followed a standard college psychology textbook, which as you know are all written in third person omniscient anyway. Of course, whenever a piece of literature is written about a culture in third person omniscient, generalizations are inevitable.

Now, you know what? I am tired of ranting empty words. Seriously.

Are you not reading that properly or something? For the last frigging time, he is NOT talking about people with Aspergers/autism!

He is not calling people with Aspergers 'pokemon fans', he is not saying people with Aspergers/autism don't care about blablabla....

Seriously. Read what it says.

It says people who PRETEND to have it who do NOT have it use it as an excuse.

It does not say people who HAVE it use it as an excuse.

Look again. Go on, dare ya.

It is NOT insulting anyone who HAS Aspergers, diagnosed or undiagnosed.

It's insulting those who PRETEND to have it who give people who DO have it a bad name.

THE STORY IS GOOD FOR THOSE OF US WHO HAVE AS.

Clear enough yet?

Just for the record, the reason they most likely brought up Pokemon, is that is has been thought the creator of Pokemon might be an Aspie.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satoshi_Tajiri

It says allegedly on the Wiki. However, there are so many Aspie qualities to Pokemon, like how he based the categorization of Pokemon off how science categorizes animals in the real world. Although, I guess it would be kind of difficult to tell without knowing them personally, cause it seems the Japanese culture is kind of generally Aspie-ish in a sense. Which is why so many Aspies like Anime too, I imagine.

Nope. it's obviously because a lot of people get very obsessed with pokemon, and that['s considered geeky, and they assume all AS people are geeky.

Oh sweet zombie Jesus.

They are not making fun of people with Asperger's. They are making fun of (usually self-diagnosed) idiots that use it as an excuse to do whatever the hell they want and the people who think that it's the next step in human evolution.

It's not a joke! This stuff is spreading around. Another anti-autism video has hit Youtube and this ones worse than anything else before. And it's not even made by the same people as the other one. They're basically saying that Hitler was autistic and autism is soley to be blamed for the Holocaust!

Watch it here: link

Make sure you flag it!

First of all (if you're not a troll), your spelling makes baby Mithras cry. Secondly, the author of the article makes it clear that he is referring to people who self-diagnose themselves and use it as an excuse to be complete douchebags and think that Asperger's is the next step in human evolution.

For some of us, now matter how hard we try, we just don't completely get the whole "Social Interaction" thing. Knowing my situation has at least taken most of the anxiety out of it.
