I love the part where they talk about people who learn to communicate without intervention. It's something that I've wanted to mention to these intervention groups for a while: What about research about how our minds work? Maybe intervention isn't the answer. I know that, as my skills with my special interests increase, so do my communicative abilities.
I do have to disagree about saying that autistics are necessarily disabled. I reject the notion that this is true. I think we're just different. I think it relates back to specialization of labor with a sort of specialization of self.
Edit: By this, I mean HFAs and aspies, not necessarily LFAs.
