To me, the internet is a vast library resource. No-one has yet said anything bad about going to the library for hours on end.

I can look up all sorts of information without leaving home, going out in the rain, or if I'm bored, watch TV on it, or play games. Look up mods for games. Look for PSP games, etc.

I am fortunate to have 2 full computers, 1 laptop, and a gaming console. That way, I can always have something to do.

At the moment I don't have a PC at home (it's at my mum's in South Australia still) and I go to the 24 hour internet cafe a lot (good when it comes to personal security - the one at the front desk press the button to let you in at late night/early morning).

I would spend easily at least 6 hours a time ($10) and on weekends $11 (8 pm to 8 am next day special rate). Weekends due to contact with people I know from different forums who are mainly from Ireland and Scotland - in other words time zone problems.

At least there is a 24 hour McDonald's above the internet cafe!

This happens to me a lot.

You may be depressed. This may subconsciously force you to do acitivities that give you pleasure while you are doing them but in the long term make you more depressed. So, you need to be aware of this behaviour.

Slowly, start forcing yourself to take joy in other activities that do not involve that internet game. Once you find joy in that and are at about a 50/50 joy level, then start to shift to what you have to do. making it a 10/45/45 joy division. And slowly ween yourself off of the bad enjoyment. It will take time but eventually it will go away.

Or, you can find a way to make that activity unpleasant. Be aware that that game is not good to you. Be mean to your online friends so that they stop being your friends. Stop getting enjoyment from it by making it an unpleasant experience.

I'd been thinking about this recently and I think that i'm also addicted.

Whenever i'm not on the internet I feel like i'm sort of alone and cut off from the world and I struggle to come off at night (As you can probably tell by my posting time) and that's been causing me a lot of problems at college as i'm always tired during the day and when i'm suposed to be doing my work I end up going back on the internet because I can't concentrate and as a result i'm falling behind.

Really not sure what to do...

I have been doing much better lately, I have weened myself back to 20 hours a week, considering I was at close to 60 hours in SL per week.

I'm afraid I might have a slight case of this. I am so stuck in this routine, it's hard to get out of it. I want to do other things. I don't play my video games often, I don't go out often, I am too lazy to clean the bathroom and I don't clean much. I keep my apartment clean anyway by keeping things picked up. I also don't go to bed when I am tired and then I finally do. I don't eat because I am too lazy to stop to feed myself.

I know I should start making lists to plan my days but I find that too stressful. All the thinking, ugh.

But at least I am not anxious to get on the computer when I am out and at least I do go into work when I am employed and when I do get a job again, I'd be going to bed and stuff so at least I am not that addicted to the computer. I still clean when I need to but I plan it. I have been meaning to clean the bathroom but I never get around to it. Damn it, I need to quit being lazy.

I have a mental health condition called Obsessive Compulsive Posting. Posting on WrongPlanet is my way of constantly running away from my emotions. It's better to post, than it is to cry, and busy hands are happy hands. I will do anything to keep myself stable, and repeatedly posting on WP is the thing that does it, for me.

I'm addicted, I get very pissy when I can't access a computer, unless I'm outdoors that is.

I don't see an internet addiction as being that bad. I figure at least (sometimes) i'm learning something useful and making an attempt at being social.

I've been addicted to the Internet, for almost 13 years. Has it really been that long? Wow! 8O

Ive been addicted to the internet for about 7 years but only in the past few years it has gotten alot worse. Its not necessarily just the internet for me but being on the computer. Surfing the web, listening to tunes, looking for new music to listen to or download, finding a new game, playing a new game. Some days I spend almost every waking moment on the computer. I just can't ever seem to get off. I'm usually doing something on the computer most nights till 2 or 3 am.
