I can't drive, because I often can't tell what face the road is making.

I got my driver's license a couple of months ago. It took me five years to finally get my license. Maybe i saw it as a status thing. Driving on the High Way is freaky to me because you are hurtling along at 60mph in a hunk of metal surrounded by other people hurtling along in hunks of metal. A slight mistake and this exoskeleton you thought was secure flies apart.

Either way, i didn't really care about getting it and still don't. Both colleges I am going to are 2 blocks away. I don't have a car, and its difficult to drive without one. I'm so used to using my bicycle and walking anyways. A car would really help with grocery shopping though...

I got my license when I was 19, after a lot of difficulties. I still hate drive.

I'm learning, will hopefully take my test in the next few weeks.

Technically I'm pretty good...as long as there's no one else around. Where I fall down is my observation and responding to situations. I can't make on-the-fly decisions about my speed and direction based on other traffic. I know all the theory about braking distances etc., and I can do the technical part of driving, I just can't seem to couple the two together.

(I'm not sure what 'surface streets' and 'freeways' are - I'm English, those terms aren't common here. I've driven on little countryside backlanes, housing estates and major roads, though.)

I drive. I'm a kickass driver, as far as operating the vehicle: parallel parking, cornering at full speed, collision avoidance, etc etc....

However I tend to not pay attention. :? I daydream, singalong to the radio, comment about other drivers out loud... everything except pay attention to the road. I have not hit anyone yet. :P

I'm 19 and I just got my permit last summer. I'm hoping to get my license soon. I've practiced driving only once though, in a parking lot. I wasn't particularly bad at it, and I'm not sure what's holding me back except that I'm somewhat overwhelmed at the amount of responsibility one has when getting behind the wheel. What also worries me is that there is so much going on when on the road, and I'm very concerned that I'll neglect to notice something very important and hurt myself or others.

My father tells me my main problem is that I over-think the process way too much. Which I suppose is better than not thinking enough. My friends give me a hard time about not driving, but the truth is that I don't go many places anyway, so I've never been in any rush to learn.

I'm fine with driving on roads I know that aren't crowded. It's actually pretty nice when there aren't other cars around, I can zone out partially and enjoy driving. I drive very poorly on busy roads though, they stress out me a lot and I can't handle highways. I also tend to be really bad at judging speed and distance of other cars so it takes me forever to turn.

I know how to drive, I haven't gotten my license yet though. I took the written test and passed it, but failed on the road test. Apparently my turns were too wide or something, and the person testing me didn't seem to be having a good day to begin with. I admit driving sort of freaks me out though, I get a little paranoid when cars get too close. That and I feel like my brain takes everything that's happening around me in at once, and it's hard to just focus on the road.

I got my license rather late, at age 21, because I was just too scared poopless about driving. Ever since then, I can't live without driving. My wife doesn't drive much, because she finds it too stressful, so I'm usually the one behind the wheel. But that's okay, because driving is one of the few things I'm not clumsy or awkward at; so yeah, I feel pretty good when I take the car out.

I got my licence when I was 17 or 18. I can drive fine, I just hate parking lots.

I'm 46 and have not been able to drive... (fixates on billboards or yellow lines more than fellow drivers and such).

Very autistic trait. I wonder why no one suggested it when you were young??

I've just been told that I may not be allowed to drive for medical reasons. My dyspraxia gets worse when I'm stressed, and although I drive well under "calm" circumstances I completely fall to pieces under others.

I'm currently under a psychologist, and things may change if they get my med right, and my anxiety gets under control. But right now I'm not safe on the road.
