I didn't think I was uncoordinated as a child until I watched home movies of myself and yikes! I was in gymnastics for a brief period as a small child and hated it. I did get into sports though in the 5th grade when I was obsessed with baseball. I started playing softball, basketball and volleyball. I actually did quite well. Then in high school I totally switched tracks and joined the dance team and my mom has revealed to me that back then she thought I made a mistake because I was so awful...lol. I put in hours and hours of practice and became one of the best on my team and am 27 and am still taking studio ballet classes. I am not the best but I can hold my own. I realize my trick is observation. I'm great at imitating people. I have always watched the best on the team or in the class and I copied them. I am very detailed oriented so I can pick up on the small things that people do and apply them to myself. However, I may be graceful in my ballet class but that doesn't stop the multiple bruises I get from running into walls that jut out just a bit or dropping things continuously....my husband just laughs because with my dance background I am a walking oxymoron.

I can get awesome at almost anything if I practice at it.
Somethings might take longer for me to warm up to than others, but once I am comfortable doing something specific, my coordination become almost a nonissue.

It's a generalisation. I can ride my bike. But I am very clumsy at most other things.

I have always walked funny according to other people, and have always had poor eye-hand coordination. Throw a ball at me and it will hit me in the face instead of being caught. However, put me on a bicycle with a guitar and I am graceful.

I think it's interesting how many of us ride bicycles. I commute by bike, ride long distances, have traveled several days by bike camping along the way, ride with groups, raced cyclocross this year, I hope to get another new bike and start mountain biking. Bicycling has been an obsession of mine for the past two year, but I also loved it when I was a kid.

I think most able-bodied aspies make awesome cyclists. I've only been riding for a few months and I'm able to keep up with most cyclists in my club.

I've got an nice bike too but I'd love to get a Cervelo.

at 17-18 I was horrible at Basketball, so I practised, at 21 I could hold my own in a pick up game but couldn't shoot, at 25 I was dropping 30-40 points a game in the top division.

So like anything it takes practice and work. I don't think we'll ever be "natural" sportspeople.

I'm incredibly uncoordinated, but I studied martial arts for years, and eventually got good at it. Also, I've practiced at my various musical instruments for years, and on some I'm excellent, while the one I started last year, I'm already pushing grade four at, and have astonished my teacher I've picked it up so well. (That's probably because I practice for several hours a day.)

Bycicling guitarist... that's the most amazingly whacky skill I've ever seen in my life. Kudos to you!
