I'm pretty sure he isn't putting on much muscle from using the "Wii Fit". And just one pound of muscle is a lot by the way.

if i were at the weight the OP described for himself, just moving at the pace and intensity the wii fit demands, would build up muscle. it takes a lot of oomph to move such weight around. that is some of why sumo wrestlers are such bruisers.

2000 calories a day is just a guideline number for a typical adult male- you may burn more, or less, than that in your normal daily routine given your own metabolism. But even if you figure that you really do burn 2000 calories a day without exercise, remember that there are approx. 3500 calories in a pound of body fat. So if your calorie deficit is only 100 or 200 calories a day, you aren't going to lose the weight very quickly. Hence, unless you want it to take forever for the weight to come off, you need to boost the amount of calories you're burning each day by at least a couple of hundred through exercise and other things you can do to boost your metabolism, and reduce the amount you are eating by at least several hundred calories (1200 calories food per day is a good target).

Bottom line is, what you're eating will have a far greater effect than working out unless you have the time and endurance to work out several hours each day - an hour aerobic workout might burn several hundred calories, but eating something you shouldn't can easily add way more than several hundred calories. So as one of the previous posters mentioned, fruit is a very good way to do this. But do be sure to get some protein too - snack on small amounts of almonds throughout the day, for instance. The other thing to do that will help is to drink lots and lots of water - rule of thumb is 1 ounce for every 2 pounds that you weigh, every day. Benefits are two-fold - lots of water will help you not feel hungry, and lots of water also helps your body metabolize fat, which is, after all, the point of all of this.

Have you tried the "Wii Fitness" CD? It's been a while since I used it. There's the training part where you're hitting a punching bag, or other various sports training programs. There's a boxing program. Also, there's tennis, bowling, baseball, and others. The boxing part will make you sweat more. You don't need the Wii board for those. Just the remote and that's it. I've done this and the CD will help you.

I don't think I can ever respect Nintendo, the platform of choice of the college educated brat (white of cause)

I wish Sega was still in hardware

My experience has been to follow this train of thought. I am better at dropping weight when I DON'T go to the gym AND I "diet down". Weight didn't go down until I actually looked at the calories that I was eating. I dropped the process carbs & sugar...up the veggies. Some fruit. Some nuts. Keep the meats lean. When I go to the gym, my appetite goes up with my energy expenditure. I just don't have the discipline to diet down AND exercise. I can eat clean, exercise, and NOT gain, but dropping weight while exercising isn't my cup of tea.

Personally, I don't think I am a fan of Wii Fit. However, the best exercise IS (suspenseful silence) the exercise that you most enjoy. If there is something better for you, but you really don't like it, you just won't do it. Do it because you enjoy it. Exercise to reduce stress. Exercise to improve fitness.

You're better off buying a treadmill and running 5 miles at 10mph daily, it only takes 30 minutes. Do this for a fortnight and you'll be shedding the pounds. After a fortnight of that, mix up running intervals with short sprints, for instance, run for 3 minutes, followed by a 30 second sprint. In my opinion, the WII is for the lazy mans way of exercising, you need real exercise, you're never going to build a good level of cardiovascular fitness or lung capacity using a WII, Sprinting will really build that up.

Start eating foods in their raw state, this means more raw fruits, vegetables, milk, nuts and honey in your regimen, if you can start an allotment and grow your own vegetables. Also eat foods with a high protein source and low fat, for instance chicken breasts, rice and peas. Avoid fast foods as they lack enzymes, heat destroys enzymes, as does pasteurization, canning and processing so do your best to avoid canned and processed foods.

Really just go running. Wii Fit is useless for any significant weight loss tbh.

That and nutrition and exercise are both equally important.

MJ, hope this question isn't looping but how much sleep do you get per night? That can be a big determinant. Also with the calorie counting, I keep hearing that its wise to go between 300 to 500 calories for breakfast to jump-start your metabolism, after that you have one meal that would be typically lighter - either lunch or dinner.

I've found that its very slow progress but, if you are able to come up with a diet that will keep you either slightly under or averaging around 2,000 calories and its sustainable (ie. you could live with it for years), the weight loss will be slow but it will build residually with the extra added benefit that you get into a routine of healthy eating which feels more like a way of life than a 'diet' per say. For a long time, particularly if you are a bit big, you won't visually see it and you may not see much on the scale. Its part of why it takes patience and it takes doing things you like in order to enjoy the process.
