Why didn't my cosmetic surgeon give me dissolvable stitches?

I got a mole removed on my cheek one week ago. He froze the area, cut around the mole, used this electric thing that zapped the area and then stitched it up. Then I got a steri strip and band-aid over it. I just got my stitches removed Monday. I was just looking on the Internet and reading and watching the same procedures and a lot of them used dissolvable stitches. They said it was from the inside so it'll be a thinner scar. I'm worried now, I know I'll get a small scar but now I'm wondering why I got regular stitches.

This was probably down to the surgeon's personal preferance, He may of found it easier to stich using normal sitiches.

Dissolvable stitches tend to be used inside the body as scar tissue can become infected if regular stuff isnt removed. The dissolvable ones react with the enzymes in the body over time in order to dissolve.

If he used dissolvable stitches to close your wound, they would of dissolved a lot quicker, due to being exposed to the environment and movement of the face. this would of meant the wound stayed open, risking infection and significant scarring.

Sorry to go on a little :) Hope this Helps

Thanks, yeah maybe it was because it was on my cheek and when you talk and eat your jaw moves that part of your face a lot. The procedure I watched was the same except the girl got her mole removed on her nose and they used dissolvable stitches. Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.
