I have a lean torso and arms but my legs, from my thighs to my ankles, carry most of my weight. I am aware that I can only manipulate how my legs look to a certain extent and that spot reduction is a myth, but I run 4 miles a day and do an hour of strength training. I have been doing this for two months. My abs and biceps are coming back but I still have a lot of weight in my legs. My diet consists of high levels of protein and very low fat content. Suggestions?

I have the same problem. I am coming to grips with living with curvy legs. What I reccomend is looking at what you wear regularly and see if it fits your body type.

Would you consider yourself to be "pear shaped"?

That's the interesting thing, my measurements show that I am pear shaped but I am incredibly close to an hourglass shape.

Interesting.

Do you have shorter legs and a longer torso? Or is it the other way around?

I've been described as being "all legs" but I have very short tendons and my calves are thick.

It's just mesomorph genetics. I'm a guy and I'm setup like this, too. I'll be 180-190lbs and people will be like "huh, you're 190lbs?" Most of the weight is probably muscle. I believe as far as somatotypes go, it's either endomorph or meso-endomorph. Just happens that way. I used to feel weird, but apparently girls like guys with big legs/glutes, just as much as guys like girls with those same features.

A positive besides possible attention is you might be a "natural" at the Olympic lifts, and squatting/deadlifting, as it favors wider hips and big legs.

I hear the "it's probably just muscle comments" a lot as well and I do see the positives. I appreciate the fact that I am incredibly strong for my size. It is not that I want to be a "stick figure", as many call very lean women, but I want to work in the film industry and although I intend to work mostly behind the scenes, I feel I will be judged more based on my appearance than say a male student with the same career goals would (not trying to be sexist and stereotype men in the industry or anything, it is just an observation I've made.)

I always have ridiculously muscular legs, whatever shape I'm in. I used to be basically skinny everywhere else, but my legs were like a wrestler's. Now I'm chubby, they're still big trunks of muscle.

Aside from being at a really healthy weight due to good diet and exercise, the only thing that helps my naturally stocky and muscular lower body look more slender is stretching my hips and legs every day for at least twenty minutes. If I don't stretch a lot the lower body muscles gets thicker and bigger and I've tried all sorts of diets and different workout styles to alter the way I look. No matter what though, my lower body looks bulky when I'm sitting and laying down in pants. I guess I'm mostly a mesomorph, but part endo as well.

It's not a bad build I guess. I used to hate it, then realized it made me stronger than the average person.
