YYYYYEEEEESSSSS!! !! ! NBA, and b-ball in general, is one of my PRIMARY special interests, and has been since I was nine or so years old.
When I was a child, I had every NBA player's height, weight, college, and middle name memorized, thanks to the Sporting News NBA Register.
I played the sport as a child in rec league as well, and continued to play sporadically in gyms as an adult. Though I may have some minor coordination issues in some other pursuits (can't ride a bike or swim), I was nonetheless a good basketball player because I started playing while young. I wanted to join the WNBA (I was 12/13 yrs old when the league started), but I stopped growing (5'2").
I live in SW MO and have been a big OKC fan since they came here from Seattle in '08. I was very upset at Durant leaving, and I ended up selling my entire card collection of his on eBay for $150 or thereabouts (I had an autograph, quite a few jersey cards, and so forth -- trading cards is a subset special interest of my basketball interest, and I regularly trade cards online - over 1,000 feedback on Sports Card Forum, and over 100 on Blowout, where everyone assumes I'm a guy unless they find out otherwise...lol).
I also like the Cavaliers. When I wasn't watching OKC last season, I was watching them as my #2 team. I was very excited when they beat the Warriors in the Finals, especially after the Thunder disappointingly gave up their 3-1 series lead against them in the WCF, and especially since the previous year's Finals had them without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. However, I still have mixed opinions on Kevin Love. He's a nice player and all, but his handsome good looks can be a distraction. Staring at him is an inadvertent special interest I have tried to get rid of.
Also familiar with the Celtics' scout, Jon Niednagel, and his Brain Type system. I know the Brain Type (similar to Myers-Briggs type) of every player he has typed. When watching the games, and paying attention to the numerous strategies, I also look for each player's type tendencies. It's all very systematic, which we Aspies love.
OK, I'm really done now. Get an Aspie on a special interest, and we seem to never end ...
