My health goal for this year is partially financial, looking for ways to decrease my med costs for this year so I can have more money to put into savings/ leisure. Got my new healthcare plan chosen as well as drug plan, plus am going to look into a new prescription med mail order service (anyone with any experience/advice on this??) since I'm pretty stable on my psych meds now, yeah 2019!

I get my meds from the VA, one thing to be aware of is a sometimes alarming time delay, between calling in the Rx order and having it come in the mail, sometimes it takes a month. you might run out of pills in the meantime. for this reason, if I hadda do it again, i'd choose my local pharmacy to pick it up directly, no worries about running outta pills.

I'm not used to taking pills every day, only started taking an antidepressant 2 months ago. Think maybe I'm dependent on it already.
I forgot to take the stuff one evening, and accidentally stayed up all night because I was focused on something and didn't remember to sleep. Don't think I would have done that before, even before I went on the pills.
And in the holidays I decided I didn't need them after all, went half dose for two nights. Went back to full dose but still dropped into major funk 2 days later.
The cynical part of me thinks they design this dependency thing into them to keep the profits flowing (which obviously works because after the above experiences I'm not likely to try giving them up any time soon).

there are some who swear by megadoses of omega-3 oils [EPA and DHA], like 2 grams daily. they can be sourced from fish oil or krill or flaxseed oil. the megadoses are in horsepill-sized clear capsules. I take one daily with a big gulp of water.

Yes, fish oil is the only supplement I take regularly, it definitely helps.
Mine are only 1g doses, though, and I take one about every 3 days or so (when I remember - or when my joints remind me)

Good for you!
I always think tennis looks like a tough sport - it must be good for physical and mental resilience.
Too hard for me, though, I never had the coordination or stamina.
How often do you play?

I have a diet plan that works really well and takes very little preparation. It's pretty elaborate, but in the long run, very easy to maintain. I can tell you more if you're interested.

My exercise pattern involves a 50-set, I pick an exercise (often on a machine), then start on the heaviest weight I can handle. I do as many reps as I can, then lower the weight to do more reps. I repeat this until I have done 50.
I'll break my days up into upper and lower; on an upper day, I'll do do my 50-set on my upper body, then a 50-set on my core/back, I usually wind up doing 8-10 of these mixed sets in a day. I try to do 12 minutes of high intensity interval cardio at the end.

I manage to do that at least once a week atm, I want to do it more often though. I'll have to organize more on the home-front to make it to the gym more. It wouldn't hurt to keep track of what exercises to do, I'd waste less time figuring out what to do next.

I think i saw your diet on the other thread. You pre-freeze smoothies and curries?
Sounds like a good idea to ensure you get enough vitamins and minerals with minimal effort.

Right now I don't have the the equipment or freezer space, otherwise I'd try something similar.
I do sometimes cook a stew or casserole in bulk and freeze half for later (but my kids complain because they're not keen on stews).

I tend to pack myself a variation on the same lunch every day, for simplicity and because I know I can tolerate it. I normally include a fruit, some nuts or a nut bar, and a cheese and pickle sandwich, sometimes with lettuce or rocket, if I have any. Works for me, anyway.
That's one of the reasons I'm not sure about going gluten-free, I'd need to develop a new lunch!

I suppose if one took another daily supplement such as a multivitamin or such, it would be easier to associate that with also taking the omega 3 capsule daily also.

I actually found a couple decent services, with either GoodRX or SecureTabs, I can save about 50% on my current monthly costs. (I don't have VA benefits unfortunately). Secure Tabs has the better selection of generics and is a little more user friendly. Definitely recommend it - check it out https://securetabs.biz/.

I’m quite heavy and need to lose weight. I joined a gym a couple months ago but wasn’t getting anything out of it, so I quit it and took up some martial arts instead. I haven’t done any since I was a kid, but I felt like it would be more fun, and I’d get a sense of accomplishment from progressing. The pants they gave me don’t fit me, so I had to order some, which has kept me from going to classes yet, but I hope to go to my first one this week.

Martial arts sounds like a good idea.
Let us know how you get on!
