I love to go jogging through my neighborhood, but I noticed my affect becomes a little unsocial and weird after I cool down. I like, kinda forget how to interact for a little while. I feel better, because I know I accomplished something, but it takes something out of me and I don't feel normal. It's weird, but that's what happens. Also, my mood kinda darkens after I run.

Runners, help?

My husband is like this too. He's currently in Afghanistan right now and is un-Dx'd spectrum, but the only thing they have to do for down time is exercise. I'm AS and we both have this issue to some extent. Exercising makes me angry and agitated and makes him just kind of "off."

We had a discussion about this the other day where everyone was saying how much better they feel after working out and I might feel good while I"m doing it but I'm angry and weird afterwards. My husband doesn't get angry, but he is less social and more withdrawn afterwards.

I think it has to do with how ASD folks have fluctuations in the normal hormones that are produced through running. I have a theory about dopamine and testosterone production and absorption rates (along with other hormones) and how they play a factor in the "odd" reactions us ASD folks have in normal life or things like exercising.

"Off" is a perfect way to describe it. I have an even harder time communicating, and my expressions are pissy. I feel sad also!

Yeah, I get that withdrawn effect. I can't make conversation or be around people easily after I've been working out.

it depends how much time has elapsed since my workout. for the first hour maybe i get a lot of sensory overload which i do not like, and that makes me withdrawn from people around me, but the reason for that may be that my gym is at our shopping centre and i dislike being there anyway. after that i feel elated for the rest of the day. love that feeling of elation, if only i had known that years ago i wouldnt have had to take anti depressants.

I'm praying that your husband will come home safe. He's in the army?

I have a more "wut" or a "duh" facial expression, reflecting tiredness.

I feel more relaxed and peaceful, but yeah I don't socialize as well. But for a different reason. Not a stress-factor as much, it's just as if I'm not down to Earth so I can't pay attention to them in full.

Most of the exercise i do is not hugely aerobic.

No, I feel great afterwards! And more relaxed too - unless I go on a crazy long bike ride more than 30-40 miles.

It's possible. I do remember reading how blood sure effects mood, and how an imbalance can mess with your mood and leave you lethargic.

Same here. I always thought it was elevated testosterone or something but I always feel surlier (which is saying something :? )and like I'm ready to fight after a good ride or workout.

I thought it was just me. After exercise I get very angry and agitated. I have found that eating as soon as I can after exercise can calm me down a bit. Definately think its to do with hormones.

I get really clumsy after I weight lift, but that's probably because my muscles get so tight and stiff. Now when I get hungry I get a little angry and th longer I wait to eat the angrier I get lol.
