I seem to think people working out when I see it in person or on social media some how inspires me but it doesn't really get me down to a gym on my own initiative. I don't know whether it's because I can't be bothered because I've got barbells and do press-ups at home or I'm hesitant about entering a place I've never been to before and for some reason haven't gone unless I was fat or something and needed to lose weight and I have always been at a healthy weight and maybe that's why I haven't gone to a gym.

I don't know if it's a bit like other threads in which I've mentioned nightclubs and things like that and don't go to those places because they don't interest me to go to them but still feel like I'm "missing out" by not going as though those places are a "requirement" to get to make friends, get fit and so on.

Going to the gym can be very boring for a lot of people. Going through the repetitive motions of each machine etc.

That is enough to put a lot of people off with bothering.

If you have autism it will take a lot of energy just to be around other people.

Even if you don't socialize your mind will spend a lot of time processing social interactions around you.

I do strength exercises at home. You can buy dumbbells and rubber bands. Gyms are too crowded, I get panic attacks in crowded places like that and I don't think it's remotely worth it. Gyms are definitely not neccesary to get fit and look good.

It sounds like you have the motivation to go to the gym to work out and socialise.

Most gyms have periods where they are less busy, usually this during working hours on a weekday or late at night for 24 hour gyms.

There may still be some people there but it's often less crowded and would help with socialising if that's what you are after.

That being said, nightclubs and gyms aren't the only places to meet people. Libraries and art galleries are good places too.

I struggle with going to the gym myself, the bright lights and loud music can sometimes be overwhelming. I've got a personal trainer and through him, I've met some of his other fitness enthused clients.

I don't particularly like sweating my overheated brains out in public.

Me neither :? , I would rather go for a long walk, ride my bike or do some stretching exercises instead. Don't like gyms, they are too crowded (to me) and smell horrible. I went once and first day managed to injure myself with some device with fenders...

problem with many corporate gyms is they use equipment that is not ergonomically well-suited for people lacking a naturally athletic physique.

In my case fitness instructor was nowhere around and, as a first time user, I was stupid enough to try to figure it out myself.

What happened to you !? I was injured enough to quit the gym and never again go there. But not that much because of the injury. Just not my thing. Didn't like it there anyway.

Gyms are gross and unhygienic. I would rather go for a long walk or run in the sunshine.

Walking outside is much nicer than going to the gym, I agree.

Which means they don't actually inspire you. You may need more inspiration or something different than gym workouts.
