Okay, lately, I've been getting these painful lumps close to my skin surface when I use deodorant. They are on my underearms. I've never gotten them before, even though I used the same deodorant. They are terrible, because I have to wear less effective deodorant, and sometimes not any at all, so they will leave or be reduced...And that means slightly stinky Spazzer!

If it's any consolation, I used to get the same thing as a teenager, but I don't get it anymore. "Wet roll-on" deodorants used to give me lumps under the armpits, so I changed to dry roll-ons. Now I use sprays.

A brand of deodorant that is known for being kind to skin and not aggravating allergies is "Vaseline intensive care" It's kind of a cream deodorant where you dispense a small amount at a time using the applicator. Housemates of mine at university used it on the reccomendation of their doctors after having problems with shaving rashes with alcohol based deodorants.

That would be difficult. But...Can an allergy just pop up randomly?

Yep. I went to beauty school for awhile and the teacher there said she was no longer a stylist because she never wore gloves. After years of having her hands imersed in salon chemicals she developed a skin allergy and had to give up her job and become a teacher... so yes, allergies, especially dealing with the skin can pop up seemingly randomly especially after prolonged use of the same product.

I know personally I have to switch shampoo brands every few years because after awhile I end up allergic to whatever i've been using.

The good news is that while allergies of this sort can come they can also go. So be nice to your armpits, take it easy on them and eventually you may be able to switch back to your orriginal deoderant.

I do know that drinking pleanty of water helps reduce the concentration of your sweat. So if you're forced to take it easy on the underarm protection make sure to drink lots of water to keep your natural odor diluted.

Either way it sounds uncomfortable so I hope it gets better soon. Best of luck!

Thanks for the help, guys! :) I guess I'll try and find something that's dryer, and has no aluminium. And drink more water! :)

I had one in the same place, very painful, couldn't even wear a bra, when I was 16. I talked to someone and they had the same thing, so they stopped drinking caffeine. I drank a lot of Vanilla Coke (mmm) and when I stopped--it went away.

But doctors couldn't explain it, and wanted to send me to a surgeon! That was 7 years ago, and it's never happened again.
