I got fat in school because I wasn't into football. (People kept teasing me in school by asking what my favorite sport was, unknown to me to be meaning which sports I enjoy playing, and being amused when I responded with Formula 1  ). It's not been easy removing it.

Yeah. I don't think this is Aspergers related. Most of my life, I was unable to gain any weight, no matter what I ate. In my late teens, I would clock in at probably 3000-4000 calories a day, and I could hardly even put on muscle before my flying metabolism processed all the protein. Only since I hit 20 have I been able to put on any weight, and it's still easy to keep off.

Tbh it might be aspergers related. I really think autism affects metabolism because I notice that most autistic people are either very skinny or overweight. There's gotta be more research on autism and metabolism.

Doesn't sound specific to Asperger's

Aspies tend to have small frames, even if they are overweight

Asperger's comorbid with depression and anxiety

Depression and anxiety cause overeating, sometimes

But it's men and women, not just men

I don't know if you experience this but I've noticed that a lot of guys with Aspergers have a lot of weight around their middle. They aren't fat or overweight but they can't seem to budge the fat around their waists. Does anyone elese have this and have you been able to shift this at all?

I have always had a problem maintaining enough weight. I've always suspected this was autism related. And now my Aspie daughter has the same problem and my non-aspie daughter does not. Anyway, a few years ago I started have a beer-belly issue. I do drink a little beer, but I don't think that was the only cause. In studying this problem, I found that it is nothing to ignore. More like the beginning of the end for some people. It is a symptom of metabolic syndrome which leads to serious health problems. For me cutting sugar to a very low level, drinking even less beer and limiting other refined carbs got the problem under control. Cutting back on the beer was done for other reasons too which would be the subject of a separate post.
