A reminder to posters that the purpose of this thread is to seek advice on reconciling fasting with the exertion of football practice.
I'm sure if muslimmetalhead had wanted a debate on religion, meat-eating or anything else then he would have asked for one.

As much as I love recreationally debating religion, this is a real issue for me.

Except he's not fasting (going without food) at all, he's just eating at a different time (night as opposed to day)....

I'd say ask your imam if you can drink water during practice only.

I think muslimmetalhead understands the reason for my first post.

Pardon my ignorance- I guess I didn't/don't understand the significance of this for anyone who isn't hypoglycemic.

The main issue is that the OP cannot drink water during football practice due to his religious beliefs.

That would be very difficult. Sustained activity is always more difficult when calories are restricted. If you could drink Gatorade or an electrolyte replacement, it might help some. Without the calories, your body just doesn't have the energy it needs to accomplish tasks. Often dizziness and a feeling of weakness accompanies the activity. If you cannot eat and must fast, just take it easy during practice until the fast is over.

Yeah, he can't drink or eat anything from sunrise to sunset.

I know in the Jewish tradition, if you become ill during a fast, you must break the fast in order to regain your health. Perhaps if that is true in Islam you could go that way.

Yes, you are correct. My father has diabetes so he often doesn't fast
