Can't you do both lifting and looking at yourself in the mirror? :P Deadlifts and squats (and the latter in particular) are a pain in the ass without mirrors.

These guys are not "working out." They are ego masturbating. Biceps, triceps, shoulders and glutes. Maybe some chest work. Its all done to impress people, mostly themselves, not for health. Rarely do you see the guys from the free weight section putting 40 minutes on the treadmill, elliptical or stair machines. Unless there are females in that area. I so despise mirror gazers.

I exercise to impress myself. Cardio, I do for weight loss.

The people I am referring to spend about 90% of their time mirror gazing, looking around to see who is watching
them flex, and hitting on females and 10% of their time in the gym lifting weights. Before you ask why I am watching instead of working out is because these guys are always walking around where I am at, using machines improperly, just the way they use free weights improperly, and generally just being annoying. They skulk around like they are marking their territory. Just like mongrel dogs. Guys who indulge in this behavior are typically in their late teens to mid twenties. Dominated by their own presence.

I need to lose some fat so I have to do some cardio. Whenever I run the front muscle in my calf tightens up and I can barely even walk. This happens after very short distances. Like so short distances that I can barely even wind myself or break a sweat. I sometimes get winded after 5 flights of stairs to give you a reference of distance.

I would suggest implementing a regimen of slow steady calf stretches before and after your cardio. And maybe more bananas in your diet. Don't rupture your Achilles or it will discourage you from ever wanting to do cardio again

It's the front not the back. And I've tried doing both of those things. In fact I normally have a banana every day for breakfast. I found some unique stretches that seemed to work the calf very well but it's the front part of the muscle that gets stiff. Right next to my shin bone.

Ah, perhaps shin splints. I have known people with this affliction but do not recall any remedy. Sorry for my WOT response.

I thought perhaps shin splints too. It's the most annoying thing ever. I have a doctor's appointment sometime in March and I'll ask about it then.
