Who has rejected you without a shirt? Are you just talking about lovers, or do you spend a lot of time swimming?

I don't see shirtless men anywhere but lakes and pools, and I don't expect to.

Nope
Then what makes you think no one wants to see you without a shirt on?  Whether true or not, why does it bother you?
It bothers me because I put a lot of hard work into lifting weights.
So ... vanity ... you want to be the center of attention, to be praised, and to be admired.

No.  Some people just look muscle-bound.
Muscle bound is a good look right?
Only if someone is into that type of thing.

By the way I am an average looking guy so how can I possibly be vain if I hate looking at my face in the mirror?
Being obsessed about one's appearance -- negatively or positively -- is a form of vanity.

If your own parents do not like to see you without a shirt, then maybe no one else does, either.  Just wear a shirt.

Jamesy, your parents just don't want you to walk around without a shirt on while they're there. There's no issue with your height or your torso. When you have company over it's commonly expected to be fully clothed, even if it's your own house. Especially if family members are over.

From experience I think men who are above average height have good bodies to most women even if there overweight.

Sure, but I don't think your parents are thinking about your height or physique when you're shirtless around them. They're probably wondering why you think it's acceptable to do that in front of them, if they're thinking anything. You can be the tallest, most fit dude on earth and if you break a social rule regarding wearing clothes you'll get negative reactions, especially from family members.

umm yere i think unless you are at a swimming pool, on a beach sunbathing
then walking around with your top off is a bit odd for most people

occasionally in the uk you get work men who do this, such as scaffold-ers etc.
which is understandable as its a really physical job

but other than that, people will probably think your like the modern equal to the medallion man

some gyms where serious body builders go
may have a mirror room

these generally are frequented by serious competition body builders
so they can see the improvement in their physique

personally not for me
body building never was my thing

although i am on a big diet at the mo to lose weight
i will never be the type to walk around to show off

and the only places i will go naked chest are in the shower, swimming pool, sea and in bed...
but each to their own i guess

I do have rather short stubby legs.

Not much I can do to change that right?

Seriously can working out only do so much to change your body?

It's an issue of modesty, really...more than anything else.

My mother wouldn't want ME to walk around shirtless in her house....or even in my house. I don't go shirtless in front of my mother.

It’s almost as inappropriate as my friend who asked if he could watch children in the bath.

Yeah, but from what I've heard the accepted height for men in those who discriminate based on height is 6 foot or above.

Why does being a short man make your body any less appealing to look at though?

I don't know. All I know is that some circles have a preference for tall handsome looking men and will mock the shorter ones relentlessly. It's stupid really.

Height *is* an advantage, but many people dispute this.
I find it odd that they do. :?

The group of women might have been screaming out:

It's also about hygiene. No one wants to be around shirtless men with their sweaty armpits, or underarm hair, etc. It's uncomfortable for people to see semi-nudity whether you have a nice body or not. It's just not appropriate. There's a reason why we are only intimate like that with intimate partners.

Where I live it's legal for men and women to go topless. There's equality in the law. But I don't see men OR women wandering around topless because it just isn't appropriate, unless the person is swimming.

I don't think it's vanity but your ongoing worry about your physique does make me wonder if you have symptoms of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). I'm not a doctor and can't diagnose it, but it might be something that you'd want to investigate. Many men and women have BDD.

Maybe they don't want to see someone posing?

Go to the beach.
T-shirts are optional there. 8)

And yes, we got the message you are 'buffed'.
