In his book advising against The Aktins Diet, Sidney Harris writes a persuasive argument against drinking dairy milk.

Cow's milk is designed for the benefit of calves alone, and is unfit for human consumption. Not to mentioned the antibiotics and hormones injected into livestock that can be transferred to man though ingesting milk.

If lack of calcium is a worry it can be found in many other sources, for instance broccolli. However dairy production is a massive industry and whilst it may be better for the individual not to consume dairy products the farming trades may suffer and decline. I think it is up to the individual consumer to decide what is healthy and morally acceptable, and not be influenced by biased statistics (e.g. so many litres per day).

If the habit of using milk is difficult to give up it is effective to replace dairy milk with soya or rice milk and cut down gradually.

You are indeed correct! A good site is www.notmilk.com for lots of info. People aren't meant to drink milk - cows don't even drink it for long!

BUT

Soy is equally bad, in that it's a plant-derived oestrogen mimicker (phytoestrogen) and is very, very bad for women especially... it's linked to a lot of big problems including various female cancers and thyroid problems. And with the prevalence of various xeno and phyto-estrogens in the environment from not only soy, but plastics (which leech into food and drink, especially when heated), it's triggering some big, big problems.

Moral of the story, stick to rice milk or similar... anything but soy or dairy. ;)

www.soyonlineservice.co.nz is a great soy resource.
