I sure hope people don't feed children anything too. Just the amount of DHMO (http://www.dhmo.org) in modern food is borderline fatal.

I'm autistic, and when I got my flu shot I didn't get un-autistic. What a rip.
BTW, the vaccine nurses hate it when I ask them in their vaccines will make me autistic. Very tongue on cheek, but I think it is a sore spot for them.
If I had to choose between my autism or crippling polio I would chose the autism. But hey, if you wanna put your kid at risk for death and disability maybe a new generation of these kids will finally make for a graphic reminder of what the pre-vaccine days were like. You know, when you feared the coming of spring and could die from a cut.

This is correct, most doctors usually don't tell you what is in a vaccine, probably out of fear that if they do then they will not vaccinate their kids, which in turn, may cause those who make money off of them (including physicians/Drs/Pharmaceutical companies) to go bankrupt.

Unfortunately the money thing is the route a lot of those in the medical field go, but even with the actual risks vaccines have I'd still rather keep my sons shots up to date. However I wouldn't get the flu shot for him at all if not for the fact that I'm a little paranoid of him getting pneumonia. I got it when I was four from a bout of flu that turned really bad and nearly died.

Antibiotics though are a whole other matter. I know our pediatrician completely hates me because of the number of times I've demanded to know if the antibiotic she was writing was just to placate me. I hate the over use of them. The way I look at it is basically every time a doctor writes a prescription for one just to shut their patient up they are taking away the opportunity for that same drug to work on someone who actually needs it in the future. I'd feel so much better just hearing, "I'm not going to lie I have no idea what's wrong with your kid so for now just do this and this to keep him comfy and watch for this and this". Being just kind of written off is more disconcerting as a parent than well yeah it could be something serious and I'm not sure, but it also could be nothing.

There is no known link between vaccines and autism. Repeated studies have shown this. However there are definite consequences linked to contracting either (or all of) measles, mumps, chicken pox and whooping cough. Some of these consequences include severe permanent disability and/or death.

The OP got it right - all children must be vaccinated.

What about legitimate medical reasons to not vaccinate?

If a child is allergic to eggs or anything that is in the vaccine. Also, read the post I made on page 1 and you might find out about other things that are in vaccinations.

I always wondered how someone with an egg allergy gets vaccinated actually. Is the allergy to all eggs usually or just chicken eggs? If its just chicken I suppose an alternate batch can be grown in a different kind of egg, but for most diseases we vaccinate for as long as you aren't traveling to areas that a high percentage of the population gets vaccinated I don't suppose it would matter because your protected by herd immunity for the most part.

My kiddo's AS symptoms showed up around vaccine time. Only problem is, he didn't get his vaccine at vaccine time because he was a preemie and was sick a lot that winter. He got his shots a few months later, when he was already showing signs of AS (and for what it's worth, no new symptoms appeared after the shots). Even if the shots had coincided with his ASD, I would still vaccinate all my kids. I would much rather have to plan my day around a few meltdown triggers and do a little extra work practicing how to act around people than to have my son drown in his own phlegm, be seriously physically disabled or lose his ability to reproduce because I refused to inoculate him against a common but preventable illness. I realize that some people do have quantifiable adverse reactions to vaccines, but they are few and far between. THOSE people, and the preemies like my son, are the ones who should go unvaccinated and enjoy the protection of herd immunity. There is no reason to refuse to vaccinate a healthy child with no family history of "vaccine injury." I don't think a lot of parents realize how many people died of childhood diseases before the advent of routine vaccinations.

Vaccination is a pretty shady business. Mandatory vaccinations for children especially--what baby is going to get Hepatitis B?! Plus, the vaccines are infected with foreign genetic material from the animal tissues they pass the virus through to "weaken" it (not always effective) & additives like thimerosol, a form of ethylmercury (this is a form that can be taken up & retained by the body). Thimerosol is pretty good at preventing fungi & other pathogens from growing in the MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vax... seems its pretty good at damaging just about any living system. The FDA is claiming that it is safe for economic reasons, not scientific ones.

Plus, viruses mutate. Constantly. And the body is constantly fighting off diseases from the environment & acquiring immunity. Why do we think it's a good idea to inject the strain of the virus from 6 months ago (or longer- the less time the vaccine takes to release, the less safety testing), location x, into large populations. Vaccination is an unnecessary burden on the immune system... not a benefit.

Remember, the CDC & FDA are basically branch offices of Big Pharma. And the mainstream press as well... they dutifully report whatever disease epidemic they want to highlight, while ignoring the very large problem of vaccine adverse reactions.

I find the tendency to stereotype autism as a "disorder" is distasteful, but vaccines are still a huge scam. Research it before you take the CDC's (or my) word for it. They're among the best at manipulating statistics & lab reports to fit the agenda of big money & power.

I agree with this statement.

Can you provide references to research findings to back that up?

I think everybody who posts about vaccines/autism should preface their post with whether they are a parent or an autie.

Because my guess is it's the parents who are anti-vaccine, and the auties are the ones who are not only fine with being autistic, but also intelligent enough to know that vaccines are not related to autism.

I have made the decision not to vaccinate, well informed over time. My son had all his, my daughter son and my younger son had none as over time I learnt more and more than confirmed my gut feeling that they weren't safe. Autism had nothing to do with my decision.

Somehow I missed the class in my master's in advanced public health nursing program where they discussed how vaccinations are unsafe (especially when compared to the alternatives of death, cancer, hepatitis, etc.).
