They're so majestic. They look haunting, like they're really from the pharaoh times. N and I ?

Love the stone wall too.

Really?!
I can see F in the bottom pic but not the top.
So lovely and healthy looking, either way.

^ Yes really, photos were taken over a year apart? She was younger in the top photo. The Welsh winters made her start sprouting fur in places. She's looking healthy today, which is a bonus.

I too like to walk in the woods. I call this my"church" This is in response to Miss Lizard's earlier response. I have found a tick repellent that works for me; I spray the bottom of my pants plus my socks with cheap cologne.( dollar-tree) Bugs evidently don't like the smell and will avoid you. I was cutting wood yesterday and employed this - no ticks I have used this strategy for the last 15-20 years.

P.S. I use the cheap kind of cologne because the smell dissipates after a few hours

That’s a good idea.I use the cutters natural but that would be less expensive.
Wonder if it works for gnats.Sometimes the tiny biting ones we call no-see-ums are worse than ticks. They are sneaky and like to go up shorts and bite.

When I went to a cat breeder to pick up a cat for my GF, the breeder showed me a kitten (a tiny blue furry slug no longer than a finger) that had been born the day before (she was the only kitten born so very special) and my heart melted, and my brain said 'Mine'. The breeder didn't want to sell, but I pestered her for weeks in email, I couldn't afford her but my family clubbed together to get her as a joint birthday/xmas present. She is the only animal in the house that I've chosen and put my foot down to get

Right now it makes me think of Robert Frost.
“ Nature’s first green is gold,
her hardest hue to hold.”

And A. E. Housman

“And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.”

Yeah.

Safer to have a hiking partner in case of injury or bears etc, but I’ve trekked around solo and just passed other hikers just fine.

Yes. Being in the forest is awesome. There is a small wooded area on a trail by my home I go to in the mornings. I only go in the morning because lots of people use the trail during the day. However that time when the sun is just starting to come up its nice and cool and no one is around. It's like my own world.

I’ve been going on a lot of solitary hikes in the woods lately. I took an 8 mile hike today. It helps me clear my head and think. I often take breaks to read, journal, meditate, or sunbathe when I come across clearings that are off the trail a bit. I’m also always on the lookout for elves, just in case.
