Agreed completely. I find the obesity hysteria and anti-fat prejudice really misguided. Animals in the wild can be moderately "overweight" and healthy, why not humans? Thin doesn't automatically equal healthy, just as obesity doesn't mean unhealthiness. It's much more to do with lifestyle. If you put junk in to the system, you're running on junk, and that can't do much for your heart. Cholesterol is more of a factor for heart health, as is exercise. You can be fat and healthy, just as you can be skinny and unhealthy. Diet and cardiovascular activity are what matter. As long as you keep the system running on the right stuff, and exercise, you should be healthy, unless you're really skinny, or really fat for your height and body shape.

I walk a lot because I don't want to bother with driving (and can't afford it), and I have a dog who demands a lot of exercise. Today, for example, I walked a total of 7 miles, all with either a heavy bag or a large dog.

Tonight as I was nearing the end of a 3 mile walk home from work (where I do a lot of walking), I passed a brightly lit gym in which people were running on treadmills. I don't understand why they pay for this while I get tons of exercise just because I'm poor and I can't afford gas for my car. They should try going to "day labor" - instead of making you pay $50 / month, they pay you $5 / hour, you get great exercise doing stuff like digging ditches, and you might even learn some Spanish.

Anyway, I'm always trying to keep some meat on my bones. If I didn't make the effort to eat so much fried food, I'd be underweight and that would be uncomfortable. I like having some cushioning. I feel healthier that way.

I am trying to start exercising. I need to lose half a stone only, it is the remainder of my Celexa weight.. I ate like a caterpillar when I was on it....

Sometimes I wonder if I should just stay this weight. But the problem is, most of the clothes in my wardrobe are my previous, lower weight. So I might as well lose it.

I know it's expensive and an enoromous pain. . . just. . . isn't that sort of a procrustean bed?

It depends where the fat on your body is. If you have fat on your hips and butt it isn't that bad. If you have a fat tummy then it can lead to problems because you can get a fatty liver and thus you will get high cholestrol and risk getting type 2 diabities.

If you want to get serious about losing weight, the first thing you should do is get strict on your diet. If you have more energy going into your body than it needs, you are either going to have to use that energy by exericising or your body will store that energy as fat.

You just taught me a new phrase! Thanks for that... my boyfriend also taught me about Sisyphus. Initially I thought you were asking if my avatar had a bed of crustaceans in it..

But yeah... I dont have enough money for more clothes and I have a good-sized wardrobe at that previous size. Plus, most of the fat is around my stomach, which is not the place to have it as Mr Bogan and Mr Mark said. Also, I am of small frame, I just dont have the bone mass to hold a lot of weight. My aunt, of similar frame, put on a couple of stone and she got a lot of aches and pains. I think the frame size needs to be taken into consideration.

5'1. Those charts they gave us in high school always said that girls who are 5'1 should weigh 100 lbs

I agree with MrMark - exercise is more important than anything. Those other factors are also more important to one's health than one's weight is.

OTOH, for those prone to being underweight, paying some attention to weight is a good idea. Being underweight is really unhealthy. Eat those cheese fries and make sure you enjoy them enough to lick the plate!

Well, maybe not cheese fries, or fried anything for that matter. Baked potatos with cheese. Macroni & cheese. Pasta, lots & lots of pasta. :)

If you love the taste of fat, excellent options are avocados, nuts, salmon, olive oil, seeds, coconut and other things...
