I'm still laughing at ULCA and AZ State because they are both ranked teams and they got served by Washington in the PAC-10.

Being ranked #1 doesn't mean you invincible because UConn has not been in the Final Four in the last three tournament. (Mason beat them in the Verizon Center in 2006)

Looking comfortable at No. 1, visiting Connecticut celebrated its return to the top of the polls for the first time in three years with a 68-51 dismantling of No. 5 Louisville on Monday night.

this years uconn is the best they've had in a long time, they've beaten as many or more top-25 teams as anyone else.

They are a legitimate serious final-four threat, along with others like duke, carolina, and michigan state.

Let recalled UCONN got beaten in 2006 by a mid-major team, Mason. After that year UCONN has not been the same. Those rankings mean nothing because when tournament time comes some ranked team in regular get beaten. Noted that UNC and Michigan State got a reality hit in 2006 from Mason as well. This just proves that powerhouse teams can beaten by a weaker team.

2007 UCONN did not make the big dance
2007 Michigan State eliminated by UNC Sweet Sixteen
2007 UNC eliminated by Georgetown Elite Eight
2007 Duke eliminated by VCU 1st Round

2008 UCONN eliminated by San Diego 1st Round
2008 Michigan State eliminated by Memphis Sweet Sixteen
2008 UNC eliminated by current champs Kansas Final Four
2008 Duke Eliminated by WVU 2nd Round

Mason crushed Hofstra yesterday 78-54! Mason remains undefeated at Home. The bonus to this win is that VCU and Northeastern just lose toinght to the two bottom teams in CAA Standings ! !!

Well I'll admit I was wrong about duke after they got totally MANHANDLED by clemson...no way duke makes it past sweet sixteen this year.

But firstly again UConn is not the uconn of the past...they're not going down easy this year.

And you don't have to convince me that the non-powerhouse teams can win, I probably give them more credit then I should. This is basketball, any day, any team can win.

but honest, this is NOT their year.

There is no legit final 4 threat outside the big conferences, like Memphis was last year. If anyone has a shot I'd guess Xavier but I'd put them more as a sweet 16/elite 8.

If I had to pick the final 4 today.... UConn, Carolina, Mich ST, L'ville.

Actually there are threats outside the big conferences for the Final Four. PAC-10 (Big Confernce Still but UCLA three times in Final Four last three tournament) You can never underestimate the capabilities of Mid-Major Conferences because everyone did that to Mason in 2006 and their comments came flying back into their faces when Mason made the Final Four. Mid-Major Conferences Teams are always a threat to the Major Conference Team.

Dude, we made them feel that lose badly since it was NE's worst CAA lose this season. Plus ODU conquered VCU! Mason is just a game beyond both NE and VCU to make the three way tie for first again.

Mid-Majors are more exciting to watch in person. (Also very dangerous to any Major Conference Team as well)

Looks like UCONN pretty much lose the number 1 ranking as of last night with the home loss to #4 Pittsburgh. Just shows you that even though you are ranked or not , you can still be beaten in the game. UW pretty much show that fact with their wins over UCLA and Arizona State, both those teams were ranked while UW wasn't and UW is the leader of the PAC-10 now.

You're right... also, they just lost their point guard for the season due to injury.

Did you notice that Boston College beat Duke? :)

Boston College actually beat UNC when UNC was #1 and then got beat by Havard.

Conference play is dangerous along with bracket busters for the mid-majors. In the end, Mid-Majors hold a great threat to Major teams.

I hear ya, Jerry... forty years ago (I can't believe it's been that long! :) ) I was a student manager of the basketball team at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA... they had a real good team, anchored by a good 6'11" center, and it was very exciting. Drexel was on their schedule, that was a game they couldn't win... Drexel is sort-of the sixth team of Philadelphia's "Big 5"

And yes, I do remember George Mason knocking off UConn... what a shocker that was!

Good luck against Drexel tonight :)

We beaten Drexel twice last season and we'll do it again because playing at the Patriot Center is not easy for many visiting teams with the home crowd really into the sport.

Duke got beaten by VCU in 2007 by a winning shot by Eric Maynor (not much fame there since Mason has a good amount of it now lol).

Michigan State lose on the road to #21 Purdue last night (Season is getting interesting now with conference championships coming up excluding Ivy League)
