I've got a question for you, sethzack. You say you don't like leaving the house. How much time do you spend outside?

Because I've had periods of acne fairly similar to what you've described. What I've been able to figure out is a combination of excess body oils, stress and not enough sunlight/vitamin D. Also, if you have excess oil, something which you may not even be aware of, and touch your face a lot or have hair that hangs in your face, the oil from your hair and hands will transfer to your face.
Also, puberty tends to be a stressful time in our lives, eh.

What was recommended to me was to get plenty of sunlight, or vitamin D, as well as a microderm, where they remove the dead skin clogging your pores. I only get a few problem areas of light acne very rarely now, which I wash with my tea tree soap, put polysporin on, occasionally with a bandaid (I'm allergic to the glue in bandaids, so not for long). However, it's expensive, so I recommend scrubs and vitamin D and sunlamps, as well as polysporin and bandaids for any areas that you might have scratched to bleeding (I do that).

I've never had terrible acne but my dad had experience in dermatology and he recommended that I use Retino-A, I use it once a week and the effects are astonishing.

I would see a dermatologist.

You shouldn't feel bad about your acne because some people keep their skin very clean and still break and some people are just born lucky.

It could be many factors such as heredity, food allergies, hormonal imbalance, stress, and so on.

I don't recommmend you irritate your face by scrubbing or using a product that makes it sting. In fact you can get break out from using products that irritate your skin. If you do scrub do it gently.

I know you don't want to see a dermatogist but I think you'll find you will feel glad that you did. They're pretty understanding people and it's something you shouldn't feel ashamed of. All skin types are different and they'll give you a product that does more good than damage to your skin.

Also ask your doctor about it. They may prescribe some antibiotic that will help the breakouts. I know I cleared up right away after going on them.

Don't mean to necro a thread, but I have something to share that worked for me. Anyways, when I had acne, I found that washing it constantly made it go away. I had acne for about 2 months and couldn't get rid of it with anything I tried. Then I just started washing my face whenever I was washing my hands and just periodically if I caught myself touching my face a lot(I mean it only takes an extra minute or so). Next thing I knew, the acne was gone. Took about a week or two.

When I was young I had horrible spots, and the thing which I found which made the zits go away was clearasil. I used to use the treatment cream with sulfur and triclosan every evening and in the morning I would clean my face with soap and water before using some sort of clearasil liquid on my face. It was a pale blue colour and did a very good job of removing dirt from my face.

You might want to try products from Sebamed's Clear Face line (if you can get it there).

Right now I'm using the cleansing foam and the gel (like a day cream but in gel form) and while it's only been three weeks, I can def. see a change in my skin.

My sister has been using it for quite a while and it's also helped her skin a lot (she's suffered from very bad acne for a very long time, I think she took accutane as well at some point)

It's a very mild cleanser/gel, pH of 5.5 and it works for both dry and oily skin (my skin's super dry and my sister's is the complete opposite).

If nothing else works, it might be worth a shot...
though I do recommend going to a dermatologist. Perhaps if someone accompanies you, it'd be easier to go?

I have been told that true acne is genetic, and will continue until the gene kicks in that seals off your skin and won't let the oil get through. I've had mild but persistent acne for years and a combination of Retin A and anti biotics are the only thing that's truly worked. Thank f**k I never had to do accutane, because that's about all that was left.

Most of the prescription stuff drys my skin out terrible, antibiotics only helped so much and Accutane make me sick and depressed as a nice side effect. :(

The things that work for me:

Dead sea salts or Epsom salts are good for drawing out nasty stuff and oil.
Rosemary oil is good for calming the skin (I have soap).
A topical cream called Nixoderm, which you can get in African and Asian stores, or online. It drys the skin out if you use it too often, but is miraculous for emergencies. Generic Toothpaste does the same. :)

There are loads of treatment reviews for acne here:
