The people in question are Papau Highlanders in New Guinea. I was thinking they are in South America but looked it up and realize it's in Melanesia. They are, unfortunately not disease free because their culture revolves around smoking and this affects their lungs. They have lung disorders. It has been noted though, they smoke and do not have heart disease so why is smoking associated with heart disease? The Papau Highlanders who are in their sixties who have undergone studies have no signs of coronary artery disease.
Okay, so these guys don't eat meat. But they also don't eat anything that is not a sweet potato according to you. How do we know the secret to their fantastic health is not the result of not eating something else?

Maybe their secret is in the wonderful synergistic effects of smoking while eating sweet potatoes!

I'm betting these guys don't watch Jersey Shore either... How does that affect heart health?
:P
They eat mostly sweet potatoes and eat pork at festivals (so not nearly as often as sweet potatoes but not never). Here's a quick overview of them:
A diet survey was undertaken involving 90 subjects, in which all food consumed by each individual was weighed over a period of seven consecutive days. Sweet potato supplied over 90 percent of their total food intake, while non-tuberous vegetables accounted for less than 5 percent of the food consumed and the intake of meat was negligible... Extensive herds of pigs are maintained and, during exchange ceremonies, large amounts of pork are consumed.
above taken from here:

Researchers have gone all over the world and found healthy people basing their diets on all sorts of different whole foods. The only commonality seems to be that the foods are whole, unprocessed and prepared in a traditional way. Mostly starch (these guys), mostly meat with saturated fat (the Inuit), mostly dairy and blood (the Masaai), there really is a common thread and that is the utter lack of modern food processing technology and modern modified crops (such as dwarf wheat). It looks like a traditional diet, any traditional diet, is better than what agribusiness dishes up.

So, I guess this is week 3?

My diet has remained about the same… Maybe a bit more “beef heavy” than last week. Again, the only cheating has been a few beers.

I did start working out again. At first, I did not have as much endurance as before, but by the end of the week, it felt like I regained a lot of it. I do my workout in the morning, after a relatively high-carb breakfast. So, I’m sure that helps a lot.

It looks like I’ve lost just under 3lbs this week, with no conscious calorie restriction.

I think I will try to cut back on calories this week.

So far, so good.

So, this week I lost another 6 lbs!! !!

I did start paying closer attention to the amounts I was eating—I think I was over-eating simply due to force of habit!

I’m still eating the same thing for breakfast. Lunch is now my heaviest meal. It usually consists of 6-8 ounces of beef/pork/chicken/fish with a good size serving of veggies. For dinner I usually have greens/green salad with 1-2 boiled eggs and maybe a bit of cheese.

My endurance continues to improve as I workout, and my mood/personal interactions remain much improved as well.

I'm eating much less, but I'm never really hungry. This is definitely the easiest diet I have ever tried.

Next week I think I’ll expand my workouts to include chin-ups and dips. They should be easier to do now that I’ve lost 10-15lbs!
:D

So, this week I’ve lost another 4lbs and a belt notch!

I really cannot believe how easy this has been… I’m never hungry and I have no problems sticking to the diet.

I did have just a twinge of panic the other day when I thought to myself, “You’ll never eat biscuits and gravy again!” Luckily the anxiety passed quickly.

It’s nice to feel like your clothes (not to mention your body) fits again.
:D

I've been doing a diet like this since the end of June; and through July I lost ~20 pounds, and another 4-5 pounds so far this month. I have not had trouble sticking with it either, Bacon and eggs (with mushrooms and sour cream) for breakfast, some meat and veggies for dinner, and canned tuna/salmon with mayo/mustard/relish or a salad for lunch. Been hovering around 1800-2000 calories a day (5% carbs, 25-30% protein, 65-70% fat), I'm not specifically limiting calories that's just enough to keep me satiated. I even lowered my breakfast since I was getting full while still eating. I didn't even have any of the negative symptoms some people get when first switching to a ketogenic diet (keto flu/induction flu). I feel great, have plenty of energy (with no spikes or dips), my workouts haven't suffered, and I'm planning on staying on a similar plan forever, but will probably add some fruits back in when I get down to my goal weight. I'm already starting to fit into my smaller sized clothes, and my belt went from being tight on the first hole to now being comfortable on the second.

A good entertaining lecture on why animal meats/fats won't kill you:

Interesting.... I do have a bit of an "energy crisis" when I start activities... I probably need to eat a bit more fat.

There was a couple days in the first couple weeks where I didn't do as well in my workouts, but once I got used to this diet I haven't had any issues.

So, in the last couple of weeks I've lost another 8lbs or so. I’m still pretty much following the same diet. I did try increasing my fat intake to increase energy, but it doesn’t seem to be quite enough.

The other day I went to school to scope out my classes for the upcoming term... My campus is extremely hilly and my classes are fairly spread out... My feet (not to mention my ass) were dragging by the time I'd made it around to all my classes.

As an experiment I had blueberry oatmeal (3/4c oatmeal, 1c blueberries, whole milk, butter) for breakfast this morning. The increased energy I had during my after breakfast workout was amazing!

I think I'm going to start eating oatmeal for breakfast (on school days at least). I'd rather hold off another week or two before adding carbs, but I really need the extra energy for school.

I think I can still keep my carb intake under 100g/day, so, maybe I won't impact my rate of weight loss too much. I'd like to lose another 20lbs at least.

Smallest I've been in over six weeks, thanks to diet.
I'd like to lose 30 more pounds- 15 would take me to around my lowest to date.
Need to start running- I have fat limbs, even when my ribs are showing, and it looks weird.

Been in a rebellious mood of late, and ready to try something radical.
My boyfriend and I just ordered a vegetarian (we're vegan) low carb cookbook from Amazon, and are going to try it out for a while.
I'm interested in losing weight while eating regularly, and have been having some success with the low-carb thing,
and we'd both like to have more planned meals each week.
Also going to limit exercise to an hour a day. Cause, like I said, I'm feeling rebellious.

Rice protein powder is cheap and holds a very high quality. This can be ordered from several internet fitness sites.

It tastes like gym socks on its own, but if you add mixed berries and almond milk to it, I reckon it'll taste better.
