Any detroit piston fans?
I just want to know if anybody thought the Pistons made good moves this summer? I think Charlie V and Ben gordon are really good players. Plus they are still young at 24 and 26. I still think they need one more piece to be a legitamate contender but they are off to a really good start! Is there anybody you think they could add?

They need two pieces because Sheed is gone now. Do they think Charlie V is going to play the 4? That was a terrible move. Instead of signing Charlie V they should have signed Paul Millsap. I really don't know what they should do. Maybe go after the Birdman
Beyond that, they should try to swing some 1-year deals, sit on the cap room left by Iverson and McDyess and go after Chris Bosh next year.
THAT would be a raw lineup with Ben Gordon, Stuckey, Tayshaun, Bosh and Birdman. You could do so many lineup combinations, with Charlie V and Maxiell on the bench--think about it, Charlie and Bosh can both play the 3 and the 4, Tayshaun is already kind of a combo 2-3, and all those guys are shooters so the middle can be wide open for Maxiell (and the Birdman, and sometimes Bosh) to run wild.
Not the best defensive situation, but it seems like they have been steering away from the old mentality anyway. With what they've already done, that's the best 2-year plan I can think of. So many things need to fall into place, it will never turn out that way, but it is financially feasible...
I think the Pistons made some good moves. Charlie V will definetly play the four spot and I realize that he was not the most popular choice. Boozer was the main man they wanted for the four but he decided not to opt out of his deal. Charlie V was the next best option and I personally think that Charlie V will turn into an all star caliber player before it is all said and done. He is only twenty four years old, not even in his prime yet. He has a very good inside and outside game and he is underated as a post player. He can also put the ball on the floor better than anyone at his position. I agree that his defense is not the best at this point but he has the athletic tools to be a good defender, he just has to put the effort in.
Overall, the Pistons will be a contending team in two years. I do not see them having any cap space to sign Bosh and personally I thought Dumars was very wise to spend his cap space this year rather than next year. Honestly, the chances of them signing one of the big fish was not as good as what most think. Why take a chance when you can spend the money now and get two very good players instead of just one great one. Also the competition is going to be steep in next years free agent market. There are an estimated 15 teams that would have cleared enough space to land a big fish, while this year the Pistons had the most cap space out of anyone and there were only two other teams that had the same cap space as Detroit.
The Pistons will again have a very good team of guys instead of one Supestar. That has not proved lately to be a way to win because the NBA is a stars league, but that is the way Joe D has always built his teams.
By the way look for the Pistons to pick up Mavs power forward Brandon Bass. He is only twenty four and with you youth movement that Dumars is incorporating you might as well get a young guy who can play center. He has a good midrange jumper and is a physical presence. He is another guy that is not in his prime yet and has not hit his ceiling as a player. I think he would be a very solid choice if they are not able to resign McDyess, which I dont expect them to.
I hate to be the one to break this to you but the Pistons will be missing the playoffs in 2010 for the first time since 2001. As soon as I saw the news breaking early last season about the Billups for Iverson deal, I knew this was the wrong move. What is so wrong about being obligated to Chauncey Billups, a top tier PG, for the next 3 years or so? He had just finished leading your team to SIX straight conference finals!! Rodney Stuckey proved last season that he was clearly not ready for primetime no matter how much of a darling he has been of Dumars' since being drafted in 2007. The irony is, Billups once again last season proved to be the difference that made the difference for his team, and he personally has now been to SEVEN straight conference finals thanks to his turnaround artistry with the Nuggets. I really feel Dumars got a little too cute with that trade. He blew it up way too soon. At least he didn't keep Michael Curry around past last season.
So we'll just have to see how this John Kuester character fares. Let me also say that it is puzzling to look at their current roster, with 9 of their 13 current players playing either forward or center. Hopefully they are looking to start the season with more than just 4 guards!
Washington and Indiana will be the two teams that missed the playoffs last season who crack the top 8 in 2009-10. Conversely, Detroit and Philadelphia will be lottery bound. (Exception: If D-Wade can't stay healthy, then Philly will out-duel Miami for a final spot.
so im not that into the technical aspects of basketball, and i know iverson is already gone (ps i love the pistons, im from michigan)
but someone could have played "wipeout" on my head with bricks and i still would have thought trading Billups for Iverson was ret*d. im still pissed about it.
