Petit mal seizures
I've been wondering lately if I may (w/o knowing it) have a mild seizure disorder (such as petit mal seizures)? Basically, I looked up some symptoms online & noticed I have some of the symptoms once in awhile & some I'm not sure of . Part of the reason I worry about this is I had seizures as an infant (from birth, on a respirator for 48 hrs., blue, couldn't go home 'til I was "clean"/seizure free for 5 days straight (took 11 days)). I had other issues to as an infant (but miraculously they seem to have all disappeared
). Its what my mother thinks caused my autism (besides genetics/seizures may have caused a jump in severity as a child or "awoken it", so I am worse than my mother/she has some mild symptoms). I'm gonna post the symptoms & website I found, my symptoms (quoted from site) in italics & parentheses stuff mine/variation b/c not sue if I count for such symptom.

Symptoms of typical petit mal seizures may include:
Muscle activity changes (occasionally)
No movement (sometimes/rarely don't even notice it usually unless its pointed out)
Hand fumbling (don't notice for sure)
Fluttering eyelids
Lip smacking (a lot more recently/ "popping noise w/ lips for no reason/no control over it)
Chewing (grinding teeth occasionally)
Consciousness changes (only passed out twice/age 15-16 & feel oddly "woozy" sometimes, odd b/c I cannot get dizzy) ( have to get drunk &/or throw myself on the ground after spinning to stimulate dizziness usually at all )
Staring episodes (unintentional/a lot... awkward instances b/c of where I ended up staring...)
Lack of awareness of surroundings (almost constant)
Sudden halt in conscious activity (movement, talking, etc.)
May be provoked by hyperventilation or flashing lights, in some cases (not sure b/c had a few times w/ episodes w/ perfumes & such, was supposedly hyperventilating...)(plus random light sensitivity)
Abrupt beginning of seizure
Each seizure lasts no more than a few seconds (if I have them this is my case)
Full recovery of consciousness, no confusion (every time after passing out, totally aware while going out/waking up but somewhat confused while walking or after a staring spell)
No memory of seizure
Some of these may just be aspie/autie traits of mine &/or results of being around relatives w/ ticks possibly (but oddly enough I'm not biologically related to the person I've noticed w/ the worst ticks) . I was supposed to get an EEG after the 2nd time I passed out (never did), so I'm not sure. Why I definitely DON'T want to drive! Just wanted to get other opinions to see if I should bring it up w/ my mom.
I also sometimes have panic attacks when people touch me (results in extreme pain than numbness in certain body parts/arms/legs, etc.) I don't know i this is a silly fear, but honestly I worry that if someone hugs me (if I don't brace myself) or more it may set off something worse than a panic attack...

I have seizures, confirmed by EEG testing. The neurologists I've seen disagree on whether the seizures represent temporal lobe epilepsy or are secondary to my AS. I'll let them get that sorted, because the result is the same for me.
I've never had a proper grand mal seizure, but I've had petit mal seizures, absence seizures, and other types. Some neurologists call what I have a "complex partial seizure disorder", which has more to do with where and how the seizures occur in my brain than what I experience when they occur.
The problem, two docs told me, is that seizures can resemble the symptoms of an Autie/Aspie under stress or duress. And some symptoms like chewing/grinding teeth (bruxism in the world of medicine) can occur without any neurological disorder. So short of testing, which itself can be inconclusive, there's no way to be sure.
Definitely get it checked so that you know what's going on and can treat it accordingly.
