Okay so when I was diagnosed as AS I also was diagnosed as a trichotillomaniac.

I've noticed my hair pulling is cyclical to the effect where I'll pull out my hair for maybe two or three days, and not straight or anything it's just there will be maybe one or two periods of about 5-15 minutes' length where I'll pull out my hair on any given two or three consecutive days. I'll then not do it again for maybe a few weeks to I think a month and a half, I don't really track it or anything I'm just guessing and I think the last time I pulled out any of my hair was maybe more than that long ago. in the past I have completely torn out my eyebrows though the pulling mainly centres on the hair on my head.

Because of it I have a noticible bald "strip" moreless surrounding my natural part and various small bald/thinned spots near the front of my head and my hairline.

One way I've been considering to control or just completely stop me dead, is to Nair, shave, or, just in some manner, completely get rid of my hair and start wearing head scarves to eliminate the temptation or compulsion towards pulling out my hair. Would doing this be overkill or might it be a not so bad way to deal with/remedy the problem?

It sounds like overkill to me but I don't have trichotillomania. Is it the physical sensation that you find satisfying? Can you find something else that would do the same but be less damaging?

I'm not too sure but I don't think it's a pain/pleasure thing. The only other thing I would do which pisses the hell out of my mother, which I don't blame her, is squeezing/prodding/picking at my acne. I more tend to play with the hair after I've pulled it out, that is to say, I'll run the tips of my fore and middle nails along its length in an attempt to get it to coil like a spring. Often in this action I'll strip the root right off the hair.
