So I'm wondering, can any of you feel or see your heartbeat all the time? I mean without feeling your pulse. When I look at my armpit or the inside of my elbow joint at the end of my bicep I can see my arteries pulsating under the skin. The most obvious however is my belly, it moves a few millimeters up and down every heartbeat. I can also always feel my heart beating and most of the time (when I'm not cold, like I am now) I can feel my blood coursing through my veins down to my fingertips. When I'm lying on my side I can feel both parts of the heartbeat against my ribs.

I've gotten a lot more fit recently so I imagine my heart has gotten bigger and stronger but I've always been able to feel my heart beating most of the time, it's just more pronounced now. Anyone else feel this? It's kind of cool but can get annoying at times when I'm trying to sleep and it distracts me. I have, however also used it to try to fall asleep when I'm having trouble, I just lie on my side and count beats to help me stop thinking about other stuff. Last time I got up to 1500 before getting tired :(

I can. I did not realize this was uncommon until I was in my last class (lifelong wellness) and the teacher was trying to help so many people locate their heart beats. I can always see my heart beating through my shirts... I do not need to do anything that gets my heart rate up... it is always like this.

I do not recall ever actually seeing any external evidence of my heartbeat, but I can definitely feel it at times, and especially when/while laying down and before going to sleep.

you should monitor your resting heart rate while you are training, I would consider this essential to your training and progress. Why you are noticing a more pronounced beat, is because as your are getting more fit, your heart is getting stronger and bigger, pumping more blood per beat, and your heart rate is lowering. That is good, thats what you want, but the reason to monitor your resting rate is because this should happen gradual over time, so if your resting heart rate fluctuates alot in a short amount of time this could be a indicator that you are over training and need to back off some before you get over trained.
Unfortantly if you are noticing a difference, you might be starting to get overtrained, but I would start monitoring it anyway. The best way to monitor it is to take your heart rate in the morning, at least a few minutes after you wake, but before you get out of bed. After you wake your blood pressure goes up some, so that is the reason to wait a few minutes before you take it. Take note of it, so that way if you notice a big fluctuation from one week to the next you will now to back off on the training some to avoid overtraining

anyway, thats more then you asked, but yeah, it is normal in athletes, and if you were to stop working out it would probably go away

When I started to ramp up my exercise program my heartbeat became noticeably stronger and I could feel it most of the time. It began to disturb my sleep and I wondered "What am I doing? Do I really want to do this?" After about a year I didn't notice it anymore.
