Haven't played a sport for years--going back--nervous
Long story short: I'm playing in an adult open soccer league tomorrow and I'm nervous. I was really big into soccer when I was younger, spent a lot of time on the fields, and ended up with some dumb long-term injuries (turf-toe in both my feet and my right-knee is janky). Then I was in college and just avoided playing, my feet and knee were still hurting then.
Recently, I'm out of college and started running and getting into shape, which has been great for my legs. I loved playing soccer, emphasis on the past-tense, but I really wanted to get back into it and tomorrow I'm going to be playing again. I used to be quite good.
Two things:
1) How do you guys react to playing in a sport? For me, when I'm on the field, I feel "normal". I'm, aggressive, quick, supporting--it comes naturally. The irony is at half-time, I'm quiet and keep to myself. At this point, I don't know if I miss the feeling of normalcy, or the sport itself.
2) Anyone gone back to playing a sport of their childhood? What was it like?

1) Totally understand. I used to play soccer and when I'd get on the field I didn't care what people might think of me, I wasn't overthinking, I was just there, playing the game, focused, and at ease... unless we were losing. Now with rowing it's the same way, I'm confident when I'm on the water and I know what to do. When I'm bowing a coxless boat (meaning I'm at the front of the boat and there's no coxie, the person who steers and tell the rowers what to do. the bowman has the responsibilities of both a rower and a coxie) I have no problem telling people what to do, what to improve on, etc., it's like I'm a different person altogether.
2) I have not, but I understand your nervousness. I don't do weights over the summer and when I start going back to the gym during the off season I always get a little nervous. For me it's some strange notion that people are watching what I do and judging me. I've got high standards for myself and I don't like showing weakness or lack of ability so I always get a bit nervous the first time going back.
