Why doesn't Shanahan learn from past mistakes in Washington? Yes, 12 winning seasons out of 14. So what?
He had considerable control in the previous team but we will all remember the season when the Broncos lost a huge 4-game lead (if I can remember correctly) and choked later on.
Why not just keep to Zorn, or maybe hire Jerry Gray, unless Brian Kelly decides to stop coaching Notre Dame and coach pro football instead?

If winning is all it matters, either empower the best in the organization, or find a real proven winner that shows consistency at the level of Lombardi or Walsh.
One Shanahan was being scouted out literally halfway through the season when Washington was losing games big time. Denver made the mistake of firing him because of not making the playoffs for three years straight. Zorn got fired because the team record was 4-12 and usually the head coach is the first one to go with that record along with the blame and heat. Shanahan will have the final say on football decision which means Snyder can't screw with the team. I think Shanahan made the good call to tell Snyder stay out of the football decision and leaving everything football to him and Bruce Allen (Son of George Allen, a former head coach).
