Okay, lately, I've been getting these painful lumps close to my skin surface when I use deodorant. They are on my underearms. I've never gotten them before, even though I used the same deodorant. They are terrible, because I have to wear less effective deodorant, and sometimes not any at all, so they will leave or be reduced...And that means slightly stinky Spazzer!

The doc said It's the deodorant plugging the sweat ducts...But then how come it's never happened before? I'm not sweatng any more than I used to. They are so uncomfortable and annoying. Any idea what they could be?

You could have acquired a persistent staph infection, or you could have a shaving rash. Are the bumps deep under the skin or near the surface? Do they have pus in them?

Hmm... probably just what the doctor said, either that or an allergy. As you get older your body changes. Some of those changes can include new allergies or reactions to things that previously never bothered you. Have you tried switching brands or to a milder deoderant? If all else fails you could always try an alternative like using baby powder instead of deoderant.

The only other thing I can think of is that it could be ingrown hairs but if you've already seen a doctor about it then if that was the case the doc should have noticed it.

Sorry, they are big bumps....Like a coin size, irregular shape. Like maybe what a swollen lymph node would feel like, but perhaps half a cm from the surface.

You need to see a dermatologist. Tell your Doc to refer you. He/She will give you and alternative. Or recommend something your body can handle.

I have heard them called sebaceous cysts....and those are generally benign. My partner gets a lot of them.

I personally am not afraid of not wearing deodorant.
It does not seem natural to me...
I use natural deodorant and also natural powder if I am worried about how I smell.

I have other reasons for shying away from using products that contain aluminum salts.

It's not a sebacious cyst.
I think I should ask my mother if she can take me to a dermatologist to suggest something. The doctor said wear less deodorant and rub them down with iodine every day...but then i have orange armpits that stain everything. :?

It's probably the deodorant. Don't try to pop them. They won't pop and they'll just go away if you discontinue the use of deodorant even if you don't put anything special like iodine on them. At all times, make sure you scrub really well with a cloth soaked in soap suds (I use liquid soap body wash). Do this all over your body at least twice, with heavy concentration on the armpits, and do this every day. That way you won't smell as bad when you're off the deodorant. After a few days or maybe most of a week, you may find that you can begin using the deodorant again. Deodorant clogs the pores of the sweat glands that make the odor, that's how it works. However, it is necessary to take a break from the deodorant from time to time to keep the bumps under control.

Stupid high-maintainance armpits. I would like to cut them off. I don't think popping the lumps would work. They are under the hypodermis i believe.

Maybe allergies could swell your lymph nodes, I dunno for sure... Swollen armpit lymph nodes are horrible, I feel for you either way, but even more so if that is the problem...

Hmm....Well, I hope I find out what it is. Could the allergy be this random? I've always used stick deodorant. Maybe I will try dove brand. Dove is good.

I fully agree with the allergy scenario get a allergy panel done, also I had similar problems before going veggie yes I'm serious. I grew up with a butcher and meat wrapper raising me but my health improved dramatically after going veggie even vegan for 6 mo I felt awesome being vegan. Now I eat fish and occasionally chicken but I have no more weird lumps in my armpits thats all i know.

I have the same problem. The only deodorant I can use is Tom's of Maine. Aluminum is used in most deodorant and it clogs pores and is very bad for you.
