Unusual Symptoms
I was wondering if anyone could help me with the symptoms that I've been having/if anyone has any idea what's happening to me ( )
First of all, I usually have one BM a day, but about once a week I will have like three in a day and the not have any for the next two days. At one point, I was diagnosed with a yeast overgrowth in my digestive tract. I took pills for it, (Candacid Forte) and it seemed to get better. Then, I went off of it for like a good 5-6 months, and my stomach started rumbling and everything and my bowels have been acting up. Additionally, sometimes, BUT NOT ALWAYS, there is blood on the tissue paper, and sometimes it stings for a bit after I go.
Second of all, I recently restarted probiotics and have restarted taking digestive enzymes (I'm allergic to milk). Since then, my stomach has been making all kinds of noises, ranging from a gentle kind of..."chirping" noise, to a low, loud growl, to a watery-type noise. This happens whether I am sitting or standing. Most of the time, I am on my belly, playing video games (dunno if this has to do with anything), and usually, right before I have to have a BM, my stomach starts rumbling louder and louder until I go, during which time it rumbles a lot, and then will subside into the gentle-type of stomach rumbling as I have mentioned before.
Third of all, I am constantly gassy. Sometimes, I have smelly gas, and other times not so much. I have heard other people (bipolar, and thus on medicine) say that their medication makes them gassy. I am currently on an anti-depressant (0.5 mg Fluoxitine) and on Respiridone (2 ml--I take it in liquid form since it is coated with milk).
Before this started, I had blood work done, and nothing came back as unusual or anything like that.
My final question is, is this likely something potentially serious like colon cancer (I'm 22 for crying out loud!), or is this something more related to the pills that I am taking? Should I continue with my dietary regimen, which is what my dietician says I should do, or what?
Colon problems are so common these days. I've heard of teenagers with the exact same problems. It's disturbing how many people think its normal to not have BMs for days, or for them to hurt. You can try one of those colon cleansing supplements. They have you take a fiber drink and some other stuff, it tends to help.
These problems are a natural result of the crappy diet that is typical these days: too much meat, white bread, not enough fiber, too much sugar. You have a dietician but I don't know what they've been recommending.
You're not going to die overnight but a lot of experts say, disease usually starts with colon problems. Bowel/Digestive problems are linked to all kind of autoimmune and mental illness. Colon cancer is like the #2 form of cancer in america, and is the natural result of a lifetime of ignoring common problems like yours.
Often times probiotics make your digestive system act funny for a while but then your body gets used to it.
Most likely Irritable Bowl Syndrome which is an exclusionary disease that doctors DX after everything else has been ruled out.
There really isn't too much the medical community can do about IBS except perscribe a anti-spasmotic which may help get rid of the rumbling and suggest that you drink more water and eat more fiber or take a fiber suppliment. At the very least I suggest drinking more water (not soda or any other sugary drink, plain water). Usually hard or difficult BMs are a result of dehydration... and difficult BMs can lead to hemoroids which may explain the bleeding. On a related note if you're only getting spots of fresh red blood on your toilet tissue then that's most likely from a hemoroid or a tear in the skin from the force or difficulty.
If all else fails you can always ask your doctor for a referal to a GI specialist but they'll probably tell you everything I just told you.
Since you had yeast overgroth, I would make sure you still dont have it. It is really hard to get rid of, and pops up depending on what foods you eat. Certain foods feed it, meaning whatever you took for it the first time could have stopped it, but not totally got rid of it. Then something you eat caused it to come back.
I WOULD NOT try the colon cleansing or any type of laxitive and would stop using the probiotics. If it is a yeast problem, those things can make it very much worse. The reason beings is that those things strip out the healthy bacteria and cause the yeast to multiply. Probiotics will act like a laxative and could cause the yeast to multiply (if it already hasnt)
I wouldnt go to your dieticine about this, because they are NOT experts in GI issues, and really have no way in really knowing what is going on.
I would talk to a GI specialist, they should do there own blood tests (they might check for different things then your doctor did). They should do a exam to see what is causing the bleeding, and if they determine that the bleeding is not from a injury (fissure, hem.), then they will probably want to do other tests to see exactly were the bleeding is coming from. Normally bleeding is not a issue, if it is a very small amount, but with your symtoms it will probably be something they will want to check.
The odds that it is something like cancer are very slim, the symptoms really dont match, but I would definantly talk to a specialist about this! It could be yeast, a side effect to one of your meds, it could be something minor, or it could be something really serious like diverticulities, you really wont know untill you see the specialist about it
