I am really scared that parents are not going to vaccinate their kids because they think they'll be autistic or have some other severe reaction the media loves to go on forever about. The whole reason so many serious childhood diseases-measles, polio, whooping cough and so forth-is because of vaccines. If everyone stops getting their kids their shots those diseases will run rampent again and many kids-and adults-will get very sick and DIE. 8O I hate hearing about this it's terrible and it scares me to death. Well, I've had all my shots so I guess I don't have to worry too much. Yeah everything that's wrong with me now is because my mother didn't want me to get sick and die. OK whatever.

Im all for massive amounts of death, too many people in the world.

now on a more serious note. The main vaccines like that, yeah go for them, I dont really care for getting the flu ones though. still no H1N1 vacc for me. If I get it I get it, Ill take my chances.

I personally feel children SHOULD be vaccinated, unless there is a serious medical risk like an allergy to the stuff in vaccines or poor family history; ex. I will NEVER get a flu shot b/c my grandfather had a really bad case (of a neurological disorder which I cannot spell   ) (sounding it out/syllables: ge am bor a) which his doctor said (b4 I was born) could be triggered by a flu shot due to genetics... unless the choice is flu shot vs. the disease I can't spell or vs. a deadly allergy get yourself & your kids freakin' VACCINATED! p.s. just b/c you can't get one vaccine (like a flu shot) doesn't mean you should avoid all vaccines!

I hold the view that no medical treatment is 100% safe, all medical treatments have both a cost (risk) and a benefit. For the vast majority of vaccinations the risk is very small so if the benefit is a protection against a serious disease which the person could be exposed to. Then I would view vaccination as a good idea.

If we consider the example of anthrax, most people are unlikely to be exposed to the pathogen so for most people the benefit is small but for a public health lab worker who works with anthrax or a member of a team (whose job is to do the clean up on pig farms in the event of an anthrax outbreak) the benefit is larger. For these people who have the potential to be occupationally exposed the cost is still the same but the benefit is larger.

I also think that herd immunity is an important benefit for some diseases, if we stop a pathogen finding a host to live inside then we could eliminate some diseases. I think that smallpox has been eliminated in this way.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

Yeah if it is a serious disease they definitely need the vaccine.

Which is worse, ASD, or dying?

Yeah, and how much do you trust those companies making the vaccines? Medicine is big business.

My suggestion: get the vaccine, and if your child has a reaction to it, don't get it again. How could you possibly know if it will harm your child if you haven't tried to give it to them yet? Furthermore, how much harm could a vaccine do to a child's preexisting genetic makeup? If the child is sensitive, that's one thing; but a vaccine won't GIVE your child autism. For all we know, it may activate a preexisting autism gene, at the very worst. It won't create anything that isn't there to begin with. The vaccine itself is created from the virus - it's not from any chemicals that don't exist in nature. Parents need to get this into their heads and not be afraid... and even if it turns out your child has autism, so what? It's not an illness or a death sentence. You'll gain serious skills in working with school systems and a greater compassion for mankind and all of its eccentricities. What's wrong with that?

They make their money on cholesterol-lowerers and antidepressants. Vaccines are just a sideline.

I'd say the main point would be, why would they do anything free when they can get money?

And consider how much they'd lose if too many people had adverse reactions to their vaccines.

I know how vaccination works. Believe me, I've had as many vaccines as I would like to get. I think that in the old days they were of some benefit. But, in the past, if you (or someone you knew) suffered a serious reaction to a vaccine, you (or they) could sue the manufacturer. Now they are completely immune from liability (look up the Bioshield Act if you don't believe me) that may arise from complications from untested vaccines (they only get 2 years of testing nowadays, which is nothing compared to what used to be done), do you really want to get a vaccine knowing that if you do suffer an adverse reaction, you have no way of holding the company that made it accountable for their actions? Because I sure as hell would not.

There is also legitimate concern over whether we are over-vaccinating our children. Most kids now get 45+ shots by the time they are five years old. The Hepatitis B vaccine is usually given at birth (sometimes without parental consent), then again at 2 months, then they get a series of shots at six months (this includes another dose of the Hepatitis B vaccine), then again at 1 year, then 18 months, etc, etc, etc. Many vaccines contain things like aluminum (which can cause brain damage on it's own), formaldehyde, monkey kidney cells, rabbit brain cells, particles of aborted fetal tissue, and God knows what else. I think that maybe there should be consent forms which list everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) that is in a vaccine or a number of them, people who get vaccines should also be informed that they have no legal recourse if they suffer a reaction (either that or the law(s) that made the manufacturers immune from liability should be repealed), those who participated in clinical trials should be tracked even after the product is released (like at least 10 years, they are only tracked for at least 18 months now, if they were tracked for a longer period of time, we might be able to detect more adverse reactions than we currently do, the testing should also be more stringent and the results MUST be OPENLY published), maybe we could try to take out any and all potential toxins (like Sodium Borate) to make them safer. If these things were done, then maybe we wouldn't be so worried about them. There are legitimate concerns and they should be addressed in the best ways possible. Also, there should be thorough investigation into claims of adverse reactions, I believe that if that was done, then we might be more able to determine whether something was caused by a vaccine (or a number of them given at once) or not.

Their scam has worked then. Thats what they do, scare people into believing that there are serious side effects or death by avoiding vaccines. My family and I will take our chances. I want to add that ASD has NOTHING to do with my decision.

They are not that unhealthy. vaccinations are given to young children for 2 main reasons. The first is their bodies are still learning how to develope making them more suseptable to the vaccination. The second is children come in contact, on average, with more people in a typical day making the spread of sickness and disease more likely. With most families being dual working families the possibility of a sick child being sent to school is also greater.

Vaccines were originally intended for the poor and uneducated, but when financial gain was seen we were conned and even forced into vaccinations. With medical technology what it is today and our increased knowledge about disease it isnt likely we would die or be permanently effected by more then half of the things we are vaccinated for.

Vaccines have been "unofficially" linked to more sicknesses and diseases then we are guarding against. To add to that the diseases we guard against we are far less likely to get then the diseases linked to vaccinations.

I purposefully stay away from the Parent's forum because they can really piss me off. I'd be willing to bet that those of you who believe so fervently that vaccinations are a conspiracy against humanity, are parents of newly diagnosed autistic children.

MUCH research has confirmed that there is NO link between vaccinations and autism.

And these other nebulous threats you raise are NOT more dangerous than the diseases the vaccines are there to prevent. Care to go back to the days when smallpox literally decimated (i.e. killed at least 10% of) a population? Or more recently, when whooping cough would kill your kid? How about polio?

And I agree with the original poster; it is selfish and irresponsible to not vaccinate your own children because then you potentially place others at risk.
