There are valid reasons why both amounts might be too much or too little. Whay are you concerned about it?

I was told to drink 64-80 ounces of water each day. More it I participate in sports or other strenuous physical activities. A pint in the U.S. is 16 ounces. Therefore the general requirement is 4-5 pints per day under normal physical activity.

It's best of all to vary your fluid intake as required by contingent circumstances. It being summer, I'd drink more water in a typical day now than I would have back in December. There are no formulaic answers where health is concerned.

Water is the most essential component of the human body. Our body is composed of roughly 60% water, depending on body size. As per medical science, a regular & adequate intake of water has many health benefits. Not only does it helps you remain hydrated, it also plays an important role in maintaining a healthy body.
Depending upon the body size and weight, experts recommend drinking around eight to ten glasses of water each day to maintain good health. As per the Institute of Medicine, the adequate intake of total beverage per day (AI) has to be about three liters or 13 cups for men and 2.2 liters or nine cups for women.

My doc told me that they used to recommend drinking 8 glasses of water but newer research thinks it should be a little less like 6. I don't know the difference between a glass & a pint. The 8 or 6 glasses thing is just an average amount & there can be lots of variation. Some of the varying factors include your physical activity level, temperature, meds you may be on, & other things you drink(or things you eat)

The Nature did equip us with sensors to prevent dehydration.
Drink some water when you are thirsty.

Or, if you want it more scientific:

Quote:
Given that excessive fluid consumption is a primary etiologic factor in EAH, using the innate thirst mechanism to guide fluid consumption is a strategy that should limit drinking in excess and developing hyponatremia while providing sufficient fluid to prevent excessive dehydration (Grade 1C).

It’s best to monitor fluid intake by the level of your thirst and the color of your urine.
