Something I noticed is that many dogs now seem to develop cancer, some in their old age some while young, it's expected for Labradors to develop fatty tumors in their lifetime and it's rare when they don't now. So, does anybody see a reason for this? Cancer is getting more common in animals and humans.

I was motivated to post this by my own dog, who just had three cancerous tumors removed. What's stranger is that the tests on the tumors revealed that the cancer was actually dying without surgery or medication of any kind. I remember a few cases of cancer curing itself in people, one in which somebody who prayed to a woman who was then made into a saint by the Catholic church for "curing the cancer". So, is there any scientific explaination for why cancer can cure itself? I don't think there is, but I'm not up to date on medical research.

The tumors generate two hormones which I forgot the name
of, or confuse them with Statins. One makes blood vessels
grow to feed the tumor. The other one suppresses other
tumors. (Maybe not always.) One thing that sometimes
happens is that without the suppressor after tumors are
removed more latent ones that were suppressed start
growing. Another is that the suppressor can be used to
kill the tumor because it shrinks the blood vessels going
to it. I wish I remembered the research, since it seemed
so important for curing cancer when I learned of it.

I'll try a quick search, if anything comes up, I'll add it.
OK... :D
I Remembered mostly correctly.

Endostatin is the suppressor of tumor blood vessels.
Angiostatin was discovered around the same time but
its different than what I recalled about it.

WHY MORE CANCER?
More toxic air and water pollution. Pesticides. Fallout and Neutron Flux.
Virus epidemics; Viruses alter genes to reproduce.
DNA Oxidant Free Radicals.
Benzopyrene from many kinds of smoke. (coal, cigarettes)
Microwaves (2.4Ghz made by both Phones and ovens)
Ultraviolet and Cosmic Rays (gamma)
All those chemicals that are sweet (except sugar). All those other chemicals in food.
Ironically, tumors produce Telomerase, which makes both tumors and healthy cells
potentially immortal.

Dogs eat all kinds of rubbish.

Thanks for the explaination, I didn't know about the chemicals that tumors produce, it certainly explains the way they work in more detail. I wonder what causes the cancer to start dying in some organisms, but not others. There must be a cause for deaths. Perhaps an imbalance in the hormones.

Good answers for why there's more cancer, we do live in a world full of all of that, so it's obvious that cancer will develop with all that stimuli around us. And dogs certainly do eat rubbish, tissues, rotted meat, garbage, etc.

I am convinced cancer is caused by a lifetime of eating grains. That's why I don't eat grains and I feed my cats grain-free cat food.
