It's weird. Usually, I need at least 8 hours (rarely ever get it) to wake up not feeling tired, and I'm always wrecked during and when I get back from college.

But on Thursday, I slept 5 hours during the day and as a result couldn't sleep until 4 am Friday morning. I had to get up at 7, so that was 3 hours sleep. I fully expected to doze off in lectures (as usual) but it was interesting enough that I actually stayed awake. I felt fine, NT-ish even (I get more AS when tired).

I figured I'd crash once I arrived home, but nope, fell asleep at 2am and got up at 8. Was active the whole day and now it's 2.30 Sunday morning...

This is really strange for me. I haven't been drinking more caffeine than usual (2 cups a day) and wonder if it's linked to the bout of sunshine we've been getting for the past few days. Or perhaps sleeping for an unbroken period on Thursday afternoon 'cured' my exhaustion. I feel 'buzzed', even though I know I'm probably wrecked. :?

Anyone else get periods of sleepness like this? What triggers it?

Sounds a lot like me. But then again, I've always been an insomniac, and consider myself to be a night owl. My little daughter is much the same way, so I think it's just something about how an Aspie's brain works. I tend to do most of my writing at night, anyway, so it all works out.

I don't require a whole lot of sleep. I usually sleep about 4 hours a day and sometimes struggle to fall asleep at that. So I live with it. Its not a bad thing. I have that much more time to think about biking the Katy Trail.

I think it has something to do with the Circadian Rhythm, once you stay awake past a certain time, then it'll be easier for you to stay awake for the rest of the day.

I noticed that if I'm really tired (haven't slept in 24 + hours), and I go to bed somewhere between 9 PM - Midnight, I'll end up waking up 3 hours later feeling refreshed. A sleep cycle is supposed to be around 1.5 hrs long, so apparently 2 sleep cycles when timed perfectly against your Circadian rhythm will make you recover a lot faster, and hence reduce your total sleep requirements.
