...written in this poll.

I wrote the countries separetly, even though some
are bidding together, such as in the cases of
Spain & Portugal and Belgium & Netherlands.

The 2014 World Cup will be played in Brazil,
not on the fact Brazil is hosting the 2016 Olympics.

{BTW, I forgot an option that would have read, "I don't care/whatever/FU Anonymous Anonymous."}

England is in contention too, but wasn't sure if the English government was
focusing on the 2018 WC or the 2022 WC.

You missed out England! ;)

I'd say it'd probably be either them or Spain and Portugal

Since Germany hosted in 2006 and France in 1998, I can't see a European bid until 2022.

With that said, the United States or Australia should be up front.

Do you think?

Id be suprised as the US only hosted it in 94, though Australia could be an interesting contender. But would they be classified aas an Asian or Oceanic/Australasian country?

Also traditionally it seems to have been European - Other - European - Other, most of the time over the years

Australia qualified for this world cup via the Asian Group instead of the Oceanic Group.

Australia is a decent chance to get the hosting role in 2022.

Yeah especially if a European country gets it in 2018, I read the other day that it cant be played on the same continent more than 1 of every 3 tournaments.

Yeah I guess they'd be in the same situation as Russia, Kazakhstan and Israel if they ever held the tournament, geographically (though you could debate russia) in a different continent to where they play.
Though the only difference could be do Australian soccer teams play in the Asian Champions League?

Also I know they're in the Asian qualifying, but if FIFA wanted the world cup to go to every continent would they be happy for New Zealand to hold it in Australasia? (especially if they flop at, or dont qualify for the next few world cups?)

It would be good for it to be held in Australia, but how many big stadia do you have over there at the moment? I know you have the MCG which would be great, but hasn't the old Olympic stadium in Sydney been downsized? And (maybe more for my own personal interest) are there any sizeable towns/cities in Australia which aren't on the coast?

There won't be a 2018 World Cup. Skynet goes online on August 5th, 2011 and initiates the Nuclear Holocaust a month later. In 2018, civilization as we know it will have been long dead.

Australian teams do play in the Asian Champions League (eg Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory were involved in the last ACL).

There are more stadiums then the ones mentioned.
Eg AAMI Park in Melbourne was just built but it cannot be used for the World Cup as it only accomodates 31,000 fans ( you need a minimum 40,000 capacity).
Etihad Stadium in Melbourne could be a World Cup venue.

Canberra is a sizable city that is inland (the country's capital).

Something tells me Russia will get the chance to host the 2018 WC. I think FIFA, who are basically money driven love to "spread" the game, which basically means they want to make more fans in areas where there are few, so that they can make more money. Russia is a new territory as far as football is concerned. It's a potential goldmine, whereas the most of the other nations are already established in the commercial side of football.

As far as 2022, I would like to see Australia get it. Just like us in South Africa it will be a winter WC, and a change from the usual Europeanised version of football. Or at least I hope so. If not Australia, then maybe Japan although they did co - host it 2002.
