I don't know much about the health benefits other than the intrinsic qualities of the food itself (seafood benefits, unprocessed, etc) but I adore sushi. I love sushi with roe; I really enjoy the texture.

And wasabi clears my sinuses quite well.

I like it too. I used to eat it a lot and then I became a bit worried about the possibility of parasites in uncooked fish. I'd still eat it if I were to go out to dinner on a special occasion. Has anyone ever gotten sick from eating sushi with raw fish?

yes sgrannel, i am sure people have gotten sick from eating sushi with raw fish. but most if not all fish for sushi. is frozen to up to -31 degrees before serving to kill any parasites, so i think you are mostly safe. and besides some hosipitals serve sushi with raw fish so if was a concern then they probbly wouldnt serve it.

I did some more reading about this and found that it's the vegetables, which can be contaminated by careless handling, that are the real danger, and not so much the fish. So if you eat raw fruits and vegetables in any setting, you're in more danger than eating the raw fish. Well, that does it. I guess I'm just screwed. I might as well go back to eating raw fish again. I will be sure to go again for sushi soon.

Sushi is very healthy, and a favorite food of mine. The nutritional value or health benefit varies by what type of sushi you're eating. If you're eating elaborate American-style sushi rolls loaded with all kinds of stuff in them--sauces, deep-fried foods, eel (the sauce used negates any benefits associated with eel), etc, they're not very healthy at all (though still delicious). But if you're having sushi which is mostly just fish, it contains a lot of nutritional value with with few negative health points.

Benefits include:
-Fish is a source of high-quality protein and minerals and is low in calories.
-A lot of sushi is high in omega-3 fatty acids (particularly fatty fishes such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel), which are good for your brain and heart. Avocado is as well, and is used in a lot of sushi rolls.
-Seaweed is high in essential vitamins and minerals.

Sushi tastes well nice but I wouldn't really class it as my favourite thing though.
I could try eating sushi for a week to see what happens?

Do that and watch your wallet empty XD

I love sushi. I tend to gravitate towards nigiri sushi though, especially salmon. (for those that dont know, nigiri sushi is the type where its a sliver of plain, unadorned fish on top of molded rice.)

Sorta related but I love the taste and feel of the pickeled ginger, so like yeah XD

I also enjoy sushi-- which is a good thing, because it's very plentiful in Vancouver. Where I came from, in Florida, there is one Japanese restaurant that makes sushi, and it is seen locally as very exotic (hence, pretty expensive). When I first started visiting BC, I was informed by my friends here that sushi is kind of a staple food in Vancouver. There are hundreds-- maybe thousands-- of sushi places across the Lower Mainland, and it's about half the price as it is in Florida (and truthfully, it's twice as good too).

thats how it is in the lehigh valley and the poconos of pennsylvania. We have a very large asian immigrant/asian-american population and plenty of places that serve sushi and other ethnic asian dishes around here. and the prices arent half bad, and the quality good.
