I'm a huge fan of authentic Asian food. But I've been wondering a couple things.

1. Does anyone know what kind of rice they would typically eat in Asia? I've been using jasmine rice, but I don't really know if that's authentic or not.

2. What do they eat for breakfast in Asia? I'm not asking about any particular area, and I wouldn't be surprised if it varied greatly from place to place. I'd like to hear any of them. I heard they have beer for breakfast in Thailand. :lol:

My grandfather used to eat rice for breakfast, sometimes with leftover meat from the day before, mixed in.

Asian food - yum yum :D

Ok in Japan a breakfast of miso or noodles is very common in the traditional diet. In the Indian subcontinent, traditionally breakfast is almost the main meal of the day and features pretty much the same menu you would get in an Indian restaraunt anywhere in the west at nightime, lunch is similar and the evening meal is generally lighter. This is actually a healthy rhythm if you have the appropriate lifestyle [up at dawn, light exercises/chores, breakfast, break, work till midday [by light not clock], lunch, break, work till early evening, chores, light meal, break, sleep, repeat].

As for rice types, traditionally they vary hugely, Japan tended toward a mid grain high calrose 'sticky' rice. India and Pakistan favour various basmati styles and China/south east asia your 'Jasmine' style long grain moderately sticky rice. This is nessasarily a very generalised survey.

My favourite is a not so sticky [loose] and long grained Indian Basmati.
My diet is my own version of south and south east asian curries using seasonal vegetables grown as locally as possible.

ive always loved asian food since im allergic to cheese and asian food doesn't have it

i like chow mein and teriyaki the most

thai food can be pretty good too

One of my favorite foods is brown rice. I absolutely love Asian cuisine.

Even though I live in a place with a gigantic Asian population and culture,I really have hard time getting the food down,must be my genetical palate,if there is such a thing.I've only had vegetarian dim sum,vegetarian summer rolls and pho (which I couldn't finish!).

That does sound very reasonable. I think I need to get the idea of "breakfast food" out of my head and just eat normal food. :lol:
Everyone here eats bagels, doughnuts, pancakes, muffins, cereal, or some combination of wheat and dairy which I can't stomach. And I can't eat just eggs either, just because I don't like the texture. I do make fried rice with leftover rice some days, but otherwise I'm indecisive for so long that I just end up having lunch.

I'm big on curries as well. :D

In Japan, the rice is sticky, and they have rice porridge for breakfast sometimes.

I am from India.
Indians have a huge appetite.
We have grand breakfast....either its chappati, paratha, south indian have idli, dosa, upma, puttu.
For lunch its rice, roti, vegetables, lentils
again dinner with a varied and different varities
indian woman spend almost half day in just cooking meals.
lot of time is spend in kitchen with kneading wheat, cutting vegetables and
washing vessels.

Indian food is my absolute favorite. I don't care for the packaged kind though, only the homemade good stuff. You've made me hungry. :-) Thanks for the link! I see some good recipes to try.

i am from hong kong. we eat toast and fried eggs and cereal and drink milk/ coffee/ tea for breakfast.
Or you can get sandwiches and muffins and harshbrown and even chicken soup macaroni for breakfast at mcdonalds. lol

Depends on where in 'Asia' you're talking about. It's a pretty damn big continent; China alone has dozens of regional quisines.

Oh yes,I did use to love Indian food! there is one place here that was amazing,is ok now,specializing in southern Indian and Sri Lankan food.Chana masala,gralic naan,dosa,mm!

I would imagine Hong Kong being under British rule for so long has adapted to western culture much more than some of the isolated areas on the mainland.
