I am thinking about starting some grappling this summer. It looks cool, I just wonder if I will suck simply because I don't like being touched very much--- I suppose I will have to get over that.

I tried Grappling once. I turned out to be really good at it. But have never actually taken it up.

i had the same fears when my muay thai trainer announced a session of clinch training.
no idea how this worked out, but it did. i still was happier than ever getting a shower afterwards, as i was drenched in the sweat of five different persons, but it worked and it was fun.

Yeah I do jujitsu. I'd suggest you learn no-gi, non-traditional jujitsu.

I pracitce Aikido, which is technically a grappling art, but theres very little contact involved- it's interesting, and completely different to kickboxing, but you do need a lot of patience. On the plus side, you learn a lot about energy redirecting and manipulation.

I will probably be doing no-gi. The place that I train at right now has 3 BJJ sessions a week, and only one is gi, the other 2 are no gi. The only advantage I can see with a gi is you could do collar-chokes and maybe a couple other subs that you can't in no-gi.

i dont speak from experience, but gi wrestling is supposed to be a bit harder on the tactical side as the gi offers a lot more grips and grip variants to be taken care of. i imagine no-gi as being more suitable to self-defense scenarios, though. all read-up knowledge and imagination, though. ;)
