Yeah, so just wondering, how many of you can ice skate? I can't ice skate myself cause I keep on falling over, though I have been ice skating once before, and I actually found it really fun, and I would really like to learn to ice skate.

I'm saying this cause I'm considering ice skating as one of the possible activities that we could organise in the meet-up thread.

I've never been iceskating, but I can't skate in general so I assume iceskating would be worse for me.

I can, to a limited degree.

I'm from a middle-class Canadian background. It's very very difficult to avoid ice skating lessons as a child with that background. I haven't had lessons for more then a decade, and have forgotten most of the tricks.

I think I could become a decent skater again if I devoted enough time to it on the local outdoor rink. Right now, I can just go around in slow circles.

Yes, although opurtunities are very limited. I rollerblade a fair amount though, it's similar.

I grew up playing hockey, and (at least the last time I skated) I had much better balance on skates than on walking.

I go pretty much in the direction I pic, with a minimum of one-point landings, but don't expect a pas-de-deux from me...;)

Does bruising your hip bone and sliding along on your butt to the nearest exit count cause if it does then I am a pro.

I like iceskating but I'm rubbish at it. I hold on to the side most of the time and I end up losing my friends because they're twirling around in the middle of the rink somewhere.

Yes, I can ice skate, but not particularly well. I took ice skating lessons with a friend 6 years ago and fell during a practice session, badly spraining my knee.

I do still skate occasionally, but only when I have someone else with me.

I have tried mostly because Alaska is obsessed with hockey, but I fall down over and over again no matter how hard I try.

i used to be a lot better but since i hadn't skated in over 6 years, it took me a while to get back into it last year. i'm hoping i'll get better this year since i now live within a 3min walk of the world's longest skating rink.

I can, but I learned to rollerblade first. I think it merits learning rollerblading first because the wheels are rubber and grip the road better.

I can, I used to play hockey. Not terribly well, mind you, but I did play. We had a girls team that was basically the worst in the state, we literally got beat by eight year olds

I can skate quite well. I learned when I was 3.5 years old, and started playing hockey at age 5. On the ice is the place where I feel most comfortable. (yes, I am Canadian)

Learning to skate can be tough. Keep practicing. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

I can skateboard. Well, I used to skateboard all the time when I was a teenager. I could do quite a few tricks and do tricks on a half pipe. I tried to skate on a halfpipe this past summer. It didn't work out to well, I didn't stay on skateboard each time I tried to go down halfpipe. I tried a few times, but it started to hurt when I would fall and slam into the bottom of the halfpipe

I love to watch it, and know all the famous skaters. However, I tried doing it myself only once and wound up falling on my butt.
