Roger Bannister is my favorite athlete of all time. Not only was he the first to break the four-minute mile, but he did it as proof it could be done in an era when it was thought to be impossible. Roger Bannister is also a very accomplished man in life, becoming a physican, specializing in neurology. I suspect he also had strong Asperger's traits. He was very shy, very serious, very intelligent, and had interests considered unusual when he was growing up. He took up running as a teenager to gain acceptance from the other boys at school. It led him to greatness.

A hero in this part of the world (New Zealand) and well deserves the accolades.

Juancho,

New Zealand runner Jack Lovelock, the gold medalist in the 1,500 at the 1936 Olympics, was also a doctor. Unlike Bannister, Lovelock died young, at the age of 39. Bannister will be 78 on March 23.

I may have confused the two.
