I recently self-diagnosed myself with Aspergers.. I was diagnosed with Tourettes, ADD, and OCD but was a little iffy as to whether or not I actually had Aspergers, until I tried B6. All of that went away, eye contact became natural, I could read facial expressions, conversation just came naturally to me.. for the first time I understood what people meant by 'just be yourself'. I've always had a hard time connecting with people and it was amazing.

It did come with some mania... I was just unnaturally happy and I suspect that what happened is that I developed a tolerance to being depressed and a normal dopamine level made be manic, which faded away after a couple of weeks.

I went to a psychiatrist to be officially diagnosed but because I was on B6 at the time, she told me she didn't believe me. She said thought I was a tripping on B6 without realizing that mania is not a normal side effect. I stopped taking it so I could get a blood test and figure out how much I should actually be taking.

Couple questions: Has anyone else experienced mania upon starting B6? Also I was taking it by itself at first, getting some negative side effects, upon adding magnesium that all went away. Has anyone taken it long term? Any chance of those negative side effects coming back?

Thanks!

who are you getting your B6 from? gimme his/her number!

seriously though I've been using it on and off for years, sure it helps a bit but nothing quite close to what you describe. I have arrhythmia so I take it for that, also it makes me somewhat calmer. but that's pretty much it. my ADD is quite severe and other stuff - like omega 3 acids, regular exercise and coffee - are much more helpful than the B6 (I feel the effects of withdrawal almost immediately, while I can forget about B6 for weeks and not feel much difference).

possibly placebo effect?

(hope I didn't ruin it for you)

I don't take B6, but have taken magnesium for years. About the only negative side effect I've noticed is when I take to much of it at once. Then I develop a belly ache for a day or two. I recall reading that magnesium has many positive uses in the body. One writing that I enjoyed on that from Dr. Eades:

"Magnesium and inflammation"

I also feel better taking omega 3s from fish oil.

Somewhat about time when i started thinking about a more healthy lifestile i started to do a bit research on foods. I stopped eating junk foods. I somewhat know what certain foods that i have been reading about, have in them. I changed my diet almost completely. I am trying to keep an eye on if i get all the vitamins, minerals, olis, acids etc. After that i have felt myself in a very good mood most of the time. I can function much better. I am more independent, actually now i even want to be, and i am not that afraid of social situations anymore. I have been reading about Asperger's syndrome for about 4 years. And i have been jumping between thoughts if i have it or not. I might have been misdiagnosed. Some autistic behaviours might have been all about what i had eaten. I was a junk food eater and i did not eat regulary. I was a picky eater.

I am not depressed most of the time. I am much more positive in my mind. I do not avoid social situations anymore, i actually try to go further and do my stuff that needs to be done, myself.

I am still a strange person though.

But feeling A LOT better. Better functioning.

Seriously in my case I think it's 99% a B6 deficiency. I still have the occasional tic, maybe a little ADD(though that may have been the mania), but completely different compared to without it..

I mean I saw facial expressions for the first time, I could make eye contact and talk at the same time, I understood small talk and enjoyed it, my posture improved, I heard music differently, I saw dating and relationship differently, I stopped obsessing over everything, I understood what people talk about when they say that maybe a god exists... I mean it was just a complete change.

It was also accompanied by the mania I mentioned, I mean my face had a permanent grin on it and I kept having to remember to force myself to stop smiling all the time... definitely not just a placebo effect.

Only problem is I'm just such a better programmer when I don't take B6 so maybe I'll specifically not boost my B6 levels at work.. maybe ADD meds during the week with only a small amount of B6 in the evenings and exclusively B6 during the weekends. It's been life changing though and pretty awesome.. especially when I'm manic. lol

The Omega-3 also made a little difference as well as the magnesium (mostly in removing B6's side effects) but B6 by far had the biggest effect.

Thanks for the replies!!

That is quite exactly how i have been feeling/felt! 8O
I also have a grin in my face very often, now. I feel very full of positive energy. And i am thinking of switching computer gaming to karate or something more real-life. But i will play computer games sometimes. This energy is driving me everywhere, makes me feel like everything is possible.

I took ZMA as a bodybuilding supplement for nearly a year and didnlt really notice much.

Im not really intro bodybuilding, but work on strength for my sports. Apparently B6 aids in the utilisation of large quantities of protein (which I also ingest), the zinc assists with testosterone production (which helps muscles recover) and the magnesium is also supposed to help with nervous system, bone strength, energy metabolism and protein synthesis.

I took it for all these reasons, it was a very high strength supplement. Around 40x goverment RDA. But still had no noticeable effects. I knew abouts its use for autistic spectrum stuff so careful to keep notice of any cognitive changes, but never noticed anything.

B6 by itself or a decent strength Vit B complex does seem to help with sleep, but thats about it.
